Van Honsebrouck is a family owned brewery in West Flanders Belgium. It makes a range if beers including Bacchus, a beer in the local style of the region. It is on this beer that the kriek and framboise is based, a premium fruit beer for which Belgium is well known. Hand wrapped and presented in half champagne bottles. This is a remarkable beer.

One of the best fruit beer in Belgium. The taste is just perfect, I rather have this bacchus than a kriek.

375ml bottl, pours cherry red, clear, with a bubbly foamy small head. Aroma is big on raspberries, light malts, sour notes, light bodied, oily texture, sourness is light, would prefer more astringency. Carbonation is lively. Finish is dry and mild sour. Not bad for a supermarket sour red.

0.5l on tap. Ruby red color. Aroma of clear raspberries. Thick small head on the surface. Dry, waterish sweetness on the tongue. Little sour in the aftertaste and sticky.

Bottle. Pours a hazy ruby brown colour with a thin beige head. Aroma is a sweet and sour mix of spicy raspberries. Taste of sweet and spicy raspberries with a hint of wood and lemon juice. Texture is sticky with a soft carbonation. A tart and sour but refreshing finish. Ok, but expecting more complexity.

Bottle from Willems. Hazy dark reddish brown with a beige head. Aroma is sweet, malty, slightly tart and lots of raspberries. Flavor is quite sweet. Medium sweet finish. Raspberries all the way. 060215

Bottled 37,5 in 2013 and on tap@Le Grincheux, Strasbourg 01/2015. Creamy candy milkshake of framboise juice, digestibly infantile sweet with a Haribo-sweet&sour edge. Finishes semi-sec. Piercing red berry fruit tartness, down to the pip bitters. Hop presence is noted. An excellent pre-adolescent treat in the kitchy 80s style category of beerpop, discredited by Van Honsebrouck’s own St. Louis range.

Bottle from Wine Emporium October 2013. Deep red in colour with a wave of soft pink foam. Tart bitter cherry flavour, a good dessert beer.

Bottle into an Achel glass. Nice head on a very dark red beer. Raspberry aroma as you would expect! Dry and flavoursome, but without the level of fruit you might get from a lambic framboos. Still this is quite tasty and easy to drink.
