Van Honsebrouck is a family owned brewery in West Flanders Belgium. It makes a range if beers including Bacchus, a beer in the local style of the region. It is on this beer that the kriek and framboise is based, a premium fruit beer for which Belgium is well known. Hand wrapped and presented in half champagne bottles. This is a remarkable beer.

Hint of metal in the aroma, lots of cherry and berry. Lovely colour. Teensy bit of hops. Smell of crisp, sweet malt.
The flavours are quite sweet, and very full of cherry! Flavours remind me of a lot of other fruit also.
Clean and refreshing, but possibly too sweet. Some nice tangy acidity in there also, I like it.

Bottle. Sample at Voldby Řlmesse 2014. Dark red pour with a frothy head. Nose and taste has loads of cherry, vanilla and almonds. Again a tad too sweet.

Murky pink. Aroma is medicinal cherry. Taste is dr pepper cherry with sherbert. Tangy finish. Overall, not a great kriek but definitely drinkable.

Zeer lekker kriekbiertje. Enorm sterke smaak van krieken en gelukkig meer zoet dan bitter

W aromacie głównie słodycz od wiśni. W smaku również, kwasek leciutki i ledwie zarysowany. Nazbyt przypominało dla mnie kompot. Pijalne, bo kompot jest pijalny.

Making ’kriekenbier’ based on ’oud bruin’ is an old tradition and delivered some great beers, yet the Bacchus brand jumped on the bandwagon only in 2009. Thinnish, off-white head on a deep wine-red robe, practically clear. Aroma smells a bit of ’kriekenjenever’ (Flemish gin variant made with cherry syrup), grenadine, sour cream, strawberry, apple sauce, hazelnuts, honey; taste explicitly sweet but fortunately not exagerratedly lemonade- or sugarlike, soft and mellow, sweet cherries rather than their sourish counterpart but still just enough acidity to balance out the initial sweetness a bit. Yet too sweet to my taste, I’d prefer the Verhaeghe Echte Kriek or even the old Liefmans Kriekenbier from pre-Moortgat times.

Bottle, 375 ml. Pours deep, clear read with a large amount of soapy light pink head. Very yeasty on the nose; of a farmyard and cheesy aroma. As expected, a big hit of cherry on the nose as well, which mostly drowns out a slight citrus note also present. Taste is extremely sweet and fruity, with cherries now drowning everything out to begin with, with yeasty and bready notes only emerging on the finish. There’s a slight sourness on the edge as well. Little reminiscent of certain popular Swedish ciders, though with a bit more complexity to it (though that isn’t saying a whole lot!). Texture is quite oily and carbonation is minimal despite the large head, meaning that this one goes down very smoothly. A little too one dimensional and overtly sweet, but enjoyable enough and may serve as a gateway for fans of aforementioned Swedish ciders to move on to better things!

Red brown colour, pink/white foam. Medium carbonation. Sweet aroma of cherries with some soft sour note. Also brown sugar and syrupy candy. Not very well balanced.
