Van Honsebrouck is a family owned brewery in West Flanders Belgium. It makes a range if beers including Bacchus, a beer in the local style of the region. It is on this beer that the kriek and framboise is based, a premium fruit beer for which Belgium is well known. Hand wrapped and presented in half champagne bottles. This is a remarkable beer.

Hint of metal in the aroma, lots of cherry and berry. Lovely colour. Teensy bit of hops. Smell of crisp, sweet malt.
The flavours are quite sweet, and very full of cherry! Flavours remind me of a lot of other fruit also.
Clean and refreshing, but possibly too sweet. Some nice tangy acidity in there also, I like it.

Clear dark red color with minimal sized pinky head. Lots of cherries, some rotten cherry. Taste is too sweet, again lots of cherries, but sweet ones, little bit sour at the end. Medium body, soft carbonation. Fine. //on tap at Craft Room

Bottle shared with JMD on board Fridtjofen 13.101.16. Dark ruby. Beige head and lacing. Intense aroma of roasted almonds, marzipan and cherries. Similarly fine taste. Refreshing, with long aftertaste of cherries and bitter almond.

Flaske delt med Ovesen ombord på Fridtjofen: klar, dyp rødlig med intens aroma av kirsebær, mandler og marsipan. Smaken er naturligvis søt, men den blir ikke kleimete. Fint skum. En herlig dessertøl.

On tap at Craft Room. Deep ruby red body with an off white head, lasting. Cherry dominates the aroma, just light dust. Cherries dominate the taste as well here, with light maltiness in the background, vaaague funk maybe, no sourness really. Slightly lighter version of Kasteel Rouge taste-wise. Actually a very good fruit beer. And definitely a fruit beer more than a sour red/brown in this case.

Pours hazy brown with a medium off-white head. Aroma is very sweet and fruity with some cherries and sugard. Taste is also very sweet with a lot of cherries. Medium body and carbo. Too sweet.

Rating #2118 - 2015.10.09 - Sample from @49thParallelYEG - Pours a deep brown, clear, mild tan foam. Aroma is tart cherry jam. Nice tart bruin notes overtaken by pure cherry sweetness. Quite sweet.

Got this on tap i Riga. While many kriek beers are too sour for many (not for me, but for my wife) this is very tasty, easy to drink and still not too sweet.

UPDATED: AUG 7, 2016 Bottle. Pours dark red to black with decent pinkish head that quickly dissipates. Aroma of cherry, grape, toffee licorice. Has a warm wine-like body. Sour on the tongue and palate. A lot of cherry, vinaigrette, and potent tartness. Nuances of toffee and star anise. Quick tarty finish.Really nice winter drink for the festive period. Little too sour to enjoy in the sun. Definitely a top in its style. The more reviews I do the more I question the veracity of ratebeer?s overall scoring.
