Van Honsebrouck is a family owned brewery in West Flanders Belgium. It makes a range if beers including Bacchus, a beer in the local style of the region. It is on this beer that the kriek and framboise is based, a premium fruit beer for which Belgium is well known. Hand wrapped and presented in half champagne bottles. This is a remarkable beer.

Hint of metal in the aroma, lots of cherry and berry. Lovely colour. Teensy bit of hops. Smell of crisp, sweet malt.
The flavours are quite sweet, and very full of cherry! Flavours remind me of a lot of other fruit also.
Clean and refreshing, but possibly too sweet. Some nice tangy acidity in there also, I like it.

gEUS (1396) - Linden, BELGIUM - MAY 25, 2015
bottle at the Passchendaele Pub at Passendale. Pours dark red to unnaturally purple. Faint aroma of cherry bubblegum and caramel. Medium to big body due to the overload of sugar and syrups (which is even mentioned on the bottle). This is’nt exactly an example of a sour red/brown in my book. Waste of water.

The beer has a beautiful chery color. The foam has a reddish brown hint, is rough and collapses quickly. The beer has a strong cherry aroma, a bit artificial if you ask me. The cherry aroma is so strong, there is no other aroma to be distinguished. The taste has te same cherry in it. It is the cherry flavor you have in cassis drink and cherry flavored candy. It never reminds me of real cherry, but it isn’t that bad. The beer is really sour, the bitternes of a normal beer is gone completely. The drink is not bad, but in my opinion, this isn’t beer. Just like Radler it is fruit lemonade with alcohol.
