COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A typical Flemish beer with a pleasant wine-like taste and a rich past. This dark brown beer, which is matured in oak casks, has a slightly acid aftertaste.

Weird brown color with slight reddish hue, thin tan head. Medium body, soft carbonation. Aroma is berries (raspberry, maybe cranberry), also hints of cherries, caramel malts. Very fruity. Taste is more sour than sweet. Very fruity and very nice sour beer.

Donker bruin bier. Een crème kleurige schuimkraag. Smaak zurig kers( kinderen cola) is bijna onrustig in de mond door het co2 gevoel.

Tap at Grill Next Door. Pours clear medium amber with just a trace off white head. Aroma of sour cherry, dirty sock. Taste is heavy on the sour, cherry. Tart. A touch of oak in the finish. Tasty, but not very complex.

Reddish brown with a minimal head. Aroma is sour cherry, tartness. Taste is a bit one-sided, mostly a medium sourness, light fruits (cherry, green apple) Medium tartness, pretty carbonated and a dryish finish.

reddish brown colour, practically no head;aroma of lactic acid, and some yeasty-earthy notes; taste of intensive sourness, and not too much else...maybe some dry white wine-notes, and minimal fruityness

2005 bottle, sampled in 2012. Sour red cherries with emphasis on the sour. This is beyond tart, moving to an uneventful finish. Not nearly as enjoyable as many of the other sour/fruit brews I’ve had.

Draft. Tart fruit aroma with some earthy notes as well. Watery, slightly thin mouthfeel. Good level of tartness, with a dry wine-like finish.

Usual wrapped, cork and caged 37.5cl bottle: opened in De Kuppe, Brugge on 31st Jan 2014. Pours a murky brown with a red hue here and there, the head a thin covering of off-white. Off wine aroma with some sour cherry hints: not as powerful as I expected though, nor as acidic or sour. The taste is tart though, mixed old fruit barrel feel to the flavour, woody, earthy and with an overriding semi-sourness from the fruitiness. A beer I’ve been meaning to try on my last three or four visits to Belgium, glad I made the effort to finally buy one.

375ml beautifully wrapped bottle bb12/2014 from De Biergrens, NL/B, 12/2013. Less of a nose than expected, especially concerning acidity: candi sugar in mulled red wine. Taste is an initial balsamic red wine/caramel reduction with dairy hints, oak dryness and a very quick finish, rounded off with a split second of lambic-style old hop zing. Almost a shallow sessioning, table version of the potentially complex Vlaams Oud Bruin style, a cut base version for Honsebrouck’s headier and sweeter stuff, but certainly not bad for 4,5%. At the price good to stock up on for cooking (reductions, rabbit...). Disclaimer for the SW-German palate: milk chocolate solved in Trollinger/Spätburgunder, fermented over night.
