COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A typical Flemish beer with a pleasant wine-like taste and a rich past. This dark brown beer, which is matured in oak casks, has a slightly acid aftertaste.

37.5cl bottle at home (19 III 2016), shared with friends. Thank you, Bert, for this bottle to share. I guess this is an archetype of a sour brown. The looks are very typically reddish brown, lots of gloom, with a beige foam on top (lots of collar, even). Aromas of wood and oak are omnipresent. The nose has flavours of a sourish red wine and some features of citrus fruits. This is very promising. The taste is beautifully sour, as a lemon flavoured soda water. The body makes me think of a quenching red wine. With some port dryness and raspberries features too. The sourness is quite sharp, lime and lemon alike. The ending is short, hinting at another old brown sip. One of Brouwerij Van Honsebrouck finest brews!

UXO (1353) - CANADA - MAR 18, 2016
Appearance: clear brown with amber-brown highlights, a short light beige head diminishing rapidly to a thin cap, patchy lacing. (3/5) Aroma: woody, red wine, vinegar, cherries and other dark fruit, caramel. (8/10) Taste: moderate sweet, moderate tart, low bitter. (7/10) Palate: medium body tending to watery, lively carbonation, off-dry tart finish. (3/5) Smells a bit better than it tastes. Disappoints just slightly on the tongue, and the body turns watery fairly rapidly despite the lively-ish carbonation. Not unpleasant, by any means, but there are certainly better examples of the style out there. (14/20)

So this smells like wine. Looks okay. This is a bit sour but isn’t particularly good. Just a bit eh.

Draft sample. The beer is a clear dark amber with a beige head of foam. The aroma has strong wood and vanilla flavors. Taste is moderately sour, but it is slight. More sweet than sour. Medium body and medium carbonation.

Some tart, yeasty fruit notes in a body that balances sweet and sour. A bit musty and acetic. Mild tannins in the flavor.

Ruby red colored to almost brown, medium beige creamy head, good lasting. Aroma is of brown sugar, tart fruity but light on the tart. Taste is medium sweet caramel, brown sugar, medium- tartness, fruity cherry, bit dry. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, watery. Thirst quencher but nothing special...

Bottle/Fest. A- Cherry. A- Brown color, hazy liquid, off white head. T- Cherry, tart. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, tart finish. O- A bit artificial tasting and honestly for the style and country of origin I expect a lot better.

Aroma is sweet malts, soured grapes, very light candy sugar, and light funk. Taste is very much the same with some tang and sour notes on the tip. Not too complex however. Appearance is a clear amber with a thin pearl head that retains fairly well.

0.375l bottle. Clear dark ruby body, thin off-white head. Aroma of cherries, dark sugar, balsamic vinegar and berries. Taste of sour cherries, apple, vinegar, sherry and dark sugar. Quite light bodied and effervescent. OK beer, but I really think oud bruin is not my favorite style.
