A typical Flemish beer with a pleasant wine-like taste and a rich past. This dark brown beer, which is matured in oak casks, has a slightly acid aftertaste.

The pour is dark brown with some reddish highlights. Head of foam isn’t outrageous but firm and long lasting. Fruity notes both sweet and tart in the nose. Deep whiffs give me a bit of Brett. At least I think so. Fruity taste with a mix of sweet and sour. Identifying the fruit is, as usual, a chore for me. Black cherry, green apples. ? The base brown is there as well. But. .Oud Bruin style Ales do put the sour notes up front if they are done right. ..my opinion. Fairly light bodied with light carbonation, I find no fault with the mouthfeel. A very nice brew and I like having that little pull tab to help get to the cap. I will get more.

Bottle at home. Lightly reddish brown colour, beige foamy head that nicely laces the beer. Aroma and taste are mainly dry and tard/sour cherries and green apples, but have some vinous, oaky vanilla and sweet roasted malty tones too. Finish is short and dry. Lively carbonation, light body. Refreshing and light, making it more drinkable than similar Flemish browns like Rodenbach and Duchesse, and just a pinch less complex.

Aroma of raisins and malts; not very strong. Taste is little bit tart, some fruit, caramelly malts in the background, a hint of oukiness. Medium sweet, medium sour. Softer and less complex than Rodenbach.

Spontaneous purchase from Järve Selver in Tallinn (375 ml / € 4.09). Too bad about so much paper going to waste... BB in 07/2016. Clear brownish red colour. Head big but drops fast, leaving a thick layer and little lacing. Excellent retention (still there after an hour!). Beige. The nose is fruity (as in near rotten apples), sweet, tart, cherry, maybe even a bit of vanilla, citrus. Tastes acidic, sweet, a lot of tartness in mid-taste, finishing woody and somewhat stale. A watery effect on the palate. Sticky texture. Yum.

At a tasting, many thanks, very cloudy lightish brown color with some rusty hues, aroma of sour fruits, mainly cherries with touches of vanila, metal and sour bread, flavor of plums, nectarine and some cherries. lingering fruity sourness. Really good and very easy to drink.

Bottle sample at a tasting at avrashi’s place. Thanks Tom L. Clear light amber-brown with no head. Aroma of sweet cherry liqueur. Sweet-sour cherry liqueur flavor, a bit acidic, kind of champagne, fruity with semi-dry finish. Lively carbonation, light to medium-bodied. Very good.

375 ml. bottle poured in to a Snifter. Dark brown colour with a reddish tinge. Thin, lightly tanned head. Slightly sour aroma with cherries, wood, caramel malts, a bit dusty, citric notes and tart fruits. Taste is lightly sour. Light to medium body with a thinner to creamy texture and a soft carbonation. Finishes dry and lightly sour with cherries, wood and caramel malts. This Oud Bruin is one of the thinner ones I had. No wonder - this has a whopping 4.5 % alcohol. Lacks a bit of the superior complexity and sourness that other Oud Bruins has.

Dark brown, no visible CO2. Huge tan head. Smells of honey, caramel, cider, yeast, cola gummy, a hint of chocolate. Very dry and sour, well balanced. No bitterness at all. Long finish with tinges of blackberry. Very nice.
