COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A typical Flemish beer with a pleasant wine-like taste and a rich past. This dark brown beer, which is matured in oak casks, has a slightly acid aftertaste.

Pours dark amber with small head. Smells like cherries, dark fruits and sugar. Taste is tart with black cherries and belgian candy. Dry and tart after taste. Some wine-like qualities come out of this beer as well. Interesting, worth picking up if you see it.

Super interesting and just a unique glass of beer. Reddish highlights and a pleasant earthiness to the aroma. Complex taste that went from sweet to savory with fruit and wood only to end up sour on the back of my tongue and roof of my mouth. Drooling, I went for another sip.

On tap, 25cL. @Le Sur Mesure, Nantes, France. A black beer with red hues ; medium beige head with a medium retention. Good lacing. Aroma of vinegar, wood, ashes. Medium to acute sour, light sweet. Light body, thin texture, average carbonation, dry sour lasting finish. Overall, good surprise ! I enjoyed this dry sourness with this woody acid aroma.

Dark brown hazy body and a small rocky white head that is fastly diminishing. Aroma of sour berries, redcurrants, grapes and oak. The taste is medium sweet and medium sour with a long lasting sour and dry finish. The taste is not lasting for long.

Finemang oude bryr med bra fin smak av suta bär balanserad malt. Lite lätt doft å mindre syrlig i eftersmaken än vad jag är van vid. Men riktigt bra! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Cherries, toffee, treacle nose. Chestnut colored, medium tan head. Tart cherry and stems flavor. Plum and toffee overtones, but cherry is dominant. Light body, medium carbonation. Good complexity and layers. Very pleasant.

Back in the late seventies, when Rodenbach was so popular that the brewery couldn’t keep up with production, Van Honsebrouck created his own oud bruin and named it Bacchus, which fortunately is still around today, though the heydays of the style have long passed. It is a typical ’Flemish red’ with a yellowish pale beige, sticky, thinnish head breaking open after a while but leaving a steady rim, and a deep brownish wine red colour with haze. The aroma, though not very strong, immediately presents itself as a typical example of the style: red berries, plums, brambleberries, passion fruit, yoghurt, medium dry sherry, vanilla-like tannins, caramel, cloves, figs, wine vinegar. In the mouth, fruity esters open the palate, combined with a sharpish lactic acidity, with refreshing and lightly drying effect, somewhat powdery yet slick mouthfeel with medium carbonation, vinous, with caramelly malts in the background and dry oaky tannins and sourishness in the finish, almost reminiscent of a dry red wine. Very correct for the style and quite enjoyable, but a bit subdued and softer and less complex than Rodenbach. Ideal beer for making ’carbonades à la flamande’, especially when combined with an abt or a dubbel...

Not a spectacular smelling beer. Pours a nice brown colour. The taste is acidic and almost similar to a sparkling wine. Delicious.
