A typical Flemish beer with a pleasant wine-like taste and a rich past. This dark brown beer, which is matured in oak casks, has a slightly acid aftertaste.

Little on the nose and found it on the whole to be rather flat with little sourness.

Aroma is sweet malts, soured grapes, very light candy sugar, and light funk. Taste is very much the same with some tang and sour notes on the tip. Not too complex however. Appearance is a clear amber with a thin pearl head that retains fairly well.

From a 375ml bottle with no labels but wrapped in silk paper. Pours mahogany brown with a nice creamy head. Aroma of sour grapes and oak. Flavors of sour grapes, oak, and hints of vanilla. Wonderful sour notes, and balance of dry dark fruits. With a little and pleasant sour and dry fish. Creating a wonderful moment. Highly recommend.

Bottle at Brežiški Festival Piva. Pours a light brown color, chestnutty undertone, topped with a medium small tan colored head. Mild grape aroma, soury feel to it. Taste is exactly what the aroma narrates. Soury with fruits and grapes. Quite decent sourness but the good kinds. Very nice.

This is truly delectble. Tons of rich, caramel and acetic and sour notes. Big pour of slightly murky brown, burgundy, ruby and a head of slight off beige with a light carbonation. Sweet, bit of candied sugar. Aroma also has prunes, cherries and raisins. Tons of dried fruits, raisins, tart and sour notes, light acetic notes. Just a very nice, cozy brew.

375 ml paper-wrapped plain bottle bought at Craftissimo in Tsim Sha Tsui East.

Looks: Clear, deep burgundy colour; One and a quarter finger head and crumpety light beige foam which lasts for 2 minutes; Very good sticky lacing with near zero carbonation.

Aroma: Fragrant full malt, with fair red wine, very light balsamic vinegar, lactic, yoghurt, light grape skin, black cherry, light funk and very light tannic.

Taste: Moderately sour malt, with yoghurt, faint red vinegar, hint of red wine, very light wood barrel, and light yeast.

Body: Mid to light; Watery palate.

Mouth Feel: Like a diluted Oud Bruin. From maltyness, tartness, vinegar, wine, etc., all down to barely testable level. No fruitiness, almost no sweetness. Bare hint of funk, very light barrel. No!

Hoppiness: None, maybe a hint of lemon in nose. Otherwise it’s lowly tartness non-finish.

After Taste: Wet; Very light sour and easy to mouth.

Comments: Like the regular Rodenbach, this is water-downed to the point it trades the style richness for easy popular drinkability. There’s no point to put out a Oud Bruin that’s so devoid of tastes in rich malt, tartness, Balsamic and barrel. Feel like drinking water, even a fairly decent aroma can’t save this. Avoid!

A superior oud bruin. I’ve seen this for years but tried for the first time on tap in Omaha at Darios. Nice mellow sourness with a lingering sweetness. Reddish brown.
