3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
375ml Bottle. The pour was a murky medium chestnut brown with an average (1-2 finger) light brown creamy head that receded at a steady pace, down to a light scattered film and medium collar with excellent full sheeting of lacing.
The aroma was of a toasted sweet grain malt and a musty Belgian yeast with notes of candi sugar, dark fruit (plums and cherries), a hint of red wine and a light oak cask presence.
The taste was sweetly tart and rather yeasty with a large dose of dark fruit (plums I believe) and a hint of candi sugar that lasted throughout, with the finish having a mild wine presence, a touch of sour berries and a light woody taste towards the end. The flavor lasted an average time after the swallow, with a bold fruity tartness left lying on the taste buds.
Mouthfeel was a shade or two below medium in body and lightly dry in texture with a strong fizzy carbonation.
Overall this was a nice fruity brew that that possessed a somewhat bold tartness along with a mild sweet candi flavor, which worked very well together to make sure that no one characteristic overpowered the other... www.facebook.com/KAJIIsBeerReviews

Light body, thin texture, average carbonation, dry sour lasting finish. Overall, good surprise ! I enjoyed this dry sourness with this woody acid aroma.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Dark brown hazy body and a small rocky white head that is fastly diminishing. Aroma of sour berries, redcurrants, grapes and oak. The taste is medium sweet and medium sour with a long lasting sour and dry finish. The taste is not lasting for long.

Finemang oude bryr med bra fin smak av suta bär balanserad malt. Lite lätt doft å mindre syrlig i eftersmaken än vad jag är van vid. Men riktigt bra!

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Back in the late seventies, when Rodenbach was so popular that the brewery couldn’t keep up with production, Van Honsebrouck created his own oud bruin and named it Bacchus, which fortunately is still around today, though the heydays of the style have long passed. It is a typical ’Flemish red’ with a yellowish pale beige, sticky, thinnish head breaking open after a while but leaving a steady rim, and a deep brownish wine red colour with haze. The aroma, though not very strong, immediately presents itself as a typical example of the style: red berries, plums, brambleberries, passion fruit, yoghurt, medium dry sherry, vanilla-like tannins, caramel, cloves, figs, wine vinegar. In the mouth, fruity esters open the palate, combined with a sharpish lactic acidity, with refreshing and lightly drying effect, somewhat powdery yet slick mouthfeel with medium carbonation, vinous, with caramelly malts in the background and dry oaky tannins and sourishness in the finish, almost reminiscent of a dry red wine. Very correct for the style and quite enjoyable, but a bit subdued and softer and less complex than Rodenbach. Ideal beer for making ’carbonades à la flamande’, especially when combined with an abt or a dubbel...

Not a spectacular smelling beer. Pours a nice brown colour. The taste is acidic and almost similar to a sparkling wine. Delicious.

On tap at St. Veronus. Brown/copper body with quickly diminishing thin white head. Flemish sour aroma is dominant with minimal oak coming through. Not as tart as the aroma suggests, almost sessionable. Medium carbonation with an abrupt finish.
