COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Back Bay’s False Cape Ale is a full bodied red ale. With a dark copper color and well rounded malt base; a bit sweet, with a lightly hopped tea-like flavor, and an even, dextrinous body. False Cape Ale is easy to please. Look for well-rounded and balanced flavors and a pleasant, toasted malt character. A drying finish comes from Cascade dry-hopping.

Pours copper color with off white head from tap. Flavor is rather bland and lifeless. Has a metallic mineral taste with astringent after taste. Little to no aroma. maybe due to me drinking outside near the bay, which is overpowering the aroma.

Bottle. Label shows "Proudly Brewed & Bottled By St. George Brewing Co. - Hampton VA.". Also shows the ABV as 5.2%. Amber pour with a short tan head. Aroma is very malty and grainy with caramel notes, dark bread and earthy hops. Taste is caramel, chewy malt, toasted dark bread, grains and light earthy and floral hops. Body is medium with a moderate, bubbly carbonation. Finishes with more toasted grains, big malt, dark bread, caramel and earthy hops.

Draft. Amber pour with a large white head. Not much aroma, just a touch of sweetness and malt. Bland but unoffensive flavor. Mostly just toasted malt sweetness.

Poured from a tap. Dark brown and kind of flat. Tastes like it might be brewed with water from the back bay

Draft at Harbor Fest. It’s a brown beer with a virtual mattress of foam for a head. Drinks with a firm, malt backbone and a woodsy aroma. Drinks somewhat like a macro with its tangy bite. I’d call it OK. (#5053, 6/9/2013)
