COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Misty Mountain is a great example of the American-style India Pale Ale synonymous with Craft Beer. Originally brewed for sailors on shipping routes between England and India, British IPAs are known for their strong hop bitterness, which were added as a preservative for the long voyage. The American adaptation is decidedly stronger and offers a more robust hop bite. Back East IPA is no exception. This assertively hopped beer has a great hoppy aroma, crisp hop bite, and smooth medium body.

Six pack of cans. Pours out a murky golden color. Bready-spice aromas. Flavor is muddled and bitter, but not very good at all. Reminds me of the crap everyone was making about 12 years ago. This does nothing for me. A waste of my hard-earned cash.

Sampled at the brewery. Pours hazy golden/amber with a white head. Aroma of floral, piney, and lightly citrusy hops, some caramel and pale malts, and light dough. Flavor the same with a good amount of bitter hops. Average texture. A standard IPA.

Growler from Brewery: This one pours a fairly clear coppery color. There was a small off white head that left some lacing. Nice hop nose. Pine and citrus dominate. The taste is very good. It has a good hop bite. Mainly citrus and pine flavors, with a decent malt body behind it. Nicely balanced.

Had my hopes up for this one, brewery is right down the road. English style IPA that doesn’t deliver on the promise of being a heavily hopped beer. This is a miss.

12oz can shared by Dan P. Pours a cloudy orange color with a thin foamy white head. Aroma of herbal hops, and light citrus. Taste of bitter pine, lemon zest, and older citrus fruit.

12 oz. can. Pour is hazy golden orange. White head with good lacing. Smell is citrus, grapefruit, heavy bittering hops and pine. Taste is lemon and grapefruit with piney hops and a strong bitter finish. Medium mouthfeel, nice residual bitterness in between sips. Very decent IPA from my hometown if Bloomfield, CT!!! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12oz can someone left at my house. Pours a hazy, orange with some thin, white head. Nose is unspectacular, pithy, light pine, slightly metallic, a little soggy bread, orange, slightly vegetal. Flavor is similar, citrus pith, artificial pine, malt, a little candy, grass. Very bitter finish. A little heavy handed.

UPDATED: APR 1, 2014 Can: Completely opaque and clogged copper and a super huge, long lasting, cloud-like eggshell head. Chunky, fat lacing left all around. Aroma is like grass water, heavy grass notes and raw hops, slightly herbaceous and only mildly citric. Taste is mild bitterness, light herbal and white pepper notes, light orangey citrus but pretty faint. More grass, light floral and herbs. Toasty cracker malt in the finish. Also a slightly strange bit of vegetal I can’t exactly figure out. Medium mouth feel, thicker than expected, decent carbonation.

Clear medium amber with a frothy long-lasting head and splashes of lace. Lots of bubbles rising and a fine distribution of what I suppose is light sediment. What a surprisingly rich and fulfilling brew! Taste begins with an assertive caramel malt that grows in complexity through the palate, adding toffee, biscuit, earth, and maybe a little yeast. The hops, rather than giving a hammer blow to announces their entry, arrive smoothly, growing stronger through the finish. Well balanced. Quite satisfying. I purchased these on a trip to Maine. Wish I had more than a six-pack!
