3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours dark with minimal head. Very sweet but soon followed by burnt cereal. Then the hops hit, and it becomes unbalanced. Dry finish. Still it's a porter, a porter can do no wrong.

It has a nice dark colour and pours with a normal head of reasonably thick foam. The smell and taste was chocolatey with some of the hops coming through in the smell. The dark malt taste was not overpowering and I really appreciated the taste of this beer. You could feel the beer over the entire palate and there were hints of smoke - although I only started to detect this after reading the bottle where it hinted that the beer was trying for this, so it could have been a placebo effect.
I rate this beer fairly high and would look for this as a porter on any pub’s menu.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Craft beer advent calendar day 2! Pours a clear dark brown with a small beige head leaving bits of lace on the glass. Aroma is chocolate, roasted malts, smoke, rich maltiness, coffee, and toffee. Flavour is cocoa, coffee, roasted malts, mild bitterness, light smoke, mild dark fruit esters and a dry finish. Much better day 2 beer.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Day 2 CBAC. Pours a clear brown with a red hue and a small soapy light brown head that leaves good lace. Aroma of chocolate, light sweet vanilla, cocoa, light smoke and latte. Taste roasted malts, chocolate, cocoa, raisins and a bit of smokiness. Finishes dry and ashy like a porter should with a medium carbonation.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12oz brown bottle from Craft Beer Advent Calendar. Dark brown brew with a thin tan coloured head a a few spots of lacing. Cocoa and roasted malt nose. Taste has dark chocolate malt, caramel and some citrus hops. Finishes with chocolate and big roasted malts. Nice lingering bitterness, lots of cocoa and roast lingering. Lightish body and soft carbonation level. Well done porter.

Bottle, from my advent calendar, Day 2. Handsome deep clear mahogany hue with a finely carbonated tan head. Aroma is a nice meaty smokiness and raisin sweetness. Strangely, this barely translates to the palate, which is more dominated by sweet dark malts that deliver flavours of raisins and caramel, allowing a hint of smokiness before a dry bitter finish sets in, ending with some lemon peel. Quite nice actually, although I wished the smokiness was a tad more assertive.

Centennial hops are very evident off the nose, but subdued. Piney, and subtle citrus which is not typical of a porter. Definately taking an American spin on the style. Decent malt backborn, carmel, chocolate and roasted coffee, not overly bitter, and fairly thin mouthfeel for a porter. Would be nicer if it was fuller. But overall very drinkable, and tasty.
