This medium-bodied Porter is brewed with a unique blend of roasted malts and fresh hops. Chocolate, smoky notes are abundant throughout and the citrus aroma provides a refreshing twist to this old world beer style.

355ml bottle pours a dark amber color with a finger of beige head that leaves some decent lacing on the glass. Aroma is citrus with hints of chocolate. Taste is a citrus hop bitterness with a chocolate malty sweetness. Medium body with moderate carbonation. A nicely done porter interesting with the citrus. Worth a try.

12 ounce bottle - $1.99 at Total Wine & More in Kennesaw, Georgia.

Appearance: Pours a very dark brown body, clear, with garnet tints at the edges. The head is a couple fingers of light beige foam. Moderate lacing.

Smell: Black malts, always unmistakable, edged with a little fresh citrus. Ashen tar-like note from the black malts with some more agreeable chocolate, sweetened coffee bringing up the rear.

Taste: Upfront pop of smokey, creosote-esque black malt ahead of the slightly softer touches of dark chocolate and coffee. Relatively light sweetness. Citrusy, faintly floral hops with a fair degree of bitterness aided a bit by the astringency from the black malts. Drying, lightly lemony, lightly astringent finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied (just barely). Medium carbonation.

Overall: After the mildness of the brown, I wasn’t expecting a stronger American citrus hop presence. Also, as is always the case, I’m never too keen on the inclusion of black malts, a very overbearing addition, in my humble opinion.

glennmastrange (2324) - hobe sound, Florida, USA - AUG 26, 2013
Bottle. Moderate toasted and chocolate aromas for the malt, light hop and yeast notes of herbs and dough, with hints of wood, alcohol and a faint smell of burnt raisins on a bagel. Head is average size, frothy/creamy, light tan with good lacing and is mostly lasting. Color is very dark brown with a red tint. Flavor starts slightly sweet and lightly to moderately acidic, then finishes slightly sweet, lightly acidic and lightly to moderately bitter. Palate is medium, slick with lively carbonation and finishes a little chalky and lightly astringent. This Porter has a some nice depth in both aroma and flavor.

A decent dry porter from, what, Alabama’s only craft brewery? Big on the dark coffee notes works well with raising the bitterness quotient. its overall a bit hoppier than i would want, but its still an outstanding porter.
