UPDATED: JAN 21, 2010 Re-rate: The brewer contacted me saying that he was sorry for the poor experience with the first bottle and that they were having early bottling issues (as far as APA’s go, 3.3 [the original rating] is not a horrible rating in my book, as I do not rate strictly per style). He asked me if I wouldn’t mind trying the beer again, and displayed absolutely amazing customer service. On this go around, the beer pours with an extremely large, just barely off-white, rocky head, over a slightly hazed golden amber body (somewhere in the 20-23 SRM area). Head has very nice retention. Spider lacing left on the side of the glass. Aroma of pine hops, decently sweet though, slight herbal and delicate caramel notes. A bit of herbal tea and sweet wort. Taste is light, decently bitter, but less assertive on the hop profile/taste than I would love to see. Much drier (less residuals) than the aroma would suggest. A touch of raw grain. Good. Medium strength, assertive bubbles that are to style. Decent body and a slight creaminess. Much better this time around. I guess the bottle before was only mediocre, as opposed to this quite nice pale.

Bottle thanks to cavie. Pours with a fading white head over a gold body. Not much aroma. Taste is sort of salty and sweet, a bit like saltwater toffee. Medium carbonation. Light citrus. 637314:3.3

UPDATED: JUN 23, 2010 Rerate from a fresh bottle. Wow, much better. I think my old rating was from a bad bottle. Light gold pour, white head. Some good spicy hop aroma, caramel malt, crackers, and even a hint of citrus. Flavor has a nice dose of citrus hops and caramel malt. Good beer, glad to have tried a fresh bottle!

12 ounce bottle courtesy of fata2683. Thanks! Shared at the 11th Richmond Ratebeer Gathering, 4/17/10. Glad to finally knock of this state. Only Arkansas and Kansas left. The aroma is citrusy hops with a fairly big malty complement. The taste is bitter citrusy hops with caramel and a bit of bready malts. Medium bodied. Decent.
