tap at the brewery - This brew has a nice blueberry aroma. The flavor has bittering hops similar to several other Back Road beers though a little lighter than the small beer and pale ale. It’s hoppier than most fruit beers though. The blueberry is there in the flavor but not strong. This brew is light bodied and a little watery.

2009 Bottle - Thanks shawnm213! - Pours lt amber with a small, fleeting white head...aroma is straight blueberry additive, almost to the point of soap, vaguely discernable grain in the back...flavour is similar, dry blueberry syrup up front, almost bitter syrup, underripe berry phenols and grain, finish is creamy and stays on the tongue...interesting brew...

Sampled via 12-oz bottle at Dark Lord Day ’09 and available at table 2. Pours a Semi-clear, light amber colored brew with an average off-white head that quickly dissipates to a fine film and thin white ring with some spot lacing. Aroma of blueberry pancakes that overpowers the caramel malt or hop character. Taste has a good balance of blueberry and white bread malt with wheat and a touch of grassy hops. Finish is semi-sweet with a mild metallic blueberry aftertaste that quickly disappears.

Sampled on tap at the brewery. Is this made with blueberries? Its made with natural blueberry ............. extract. It looks just like their house ale with similar pale malts. But that blueberry nose is strong. Reminds me of blueberry topping on a sunday, sweet, sugary, kind of creamy. The blueberry extract flavors dominate the pale malts and become harder to drink as I sip it down. Too sweet.

4/25/2009: I reached for the bottle of Back Road Blueberry Ale not because I really wanted to taste it, but to act more as a palate cleanser and create a well needed break in the action. However, I was pleasantly surprised by this beer as it was not the typical, crappy, packed full of artificial blueberry flavor blueberry beer. The aroma was heavily blueberry that was accompanied by a huge blueberry flavor. It was floral and not overly sweet, just like REAL blueberries. Despite the disappointing golden color and thin off-white head, I though that this was actually pretty good for a blueberry beer.

Sample from bottle at Dark Lord Day 2009. Rating #43 for this beer.
