Tap and growler: Nearly opaque with a creamy beige head and good lace. The aroma has notes of heavy roast, toast, char, smoke, chocolate, crystal and coffee malt influences. Some prune, fig, and resiny hop esters with a dollop of Back Road house yeast and water profile. The taste starts roasty and toasty with a background of dark fruit, charred wood, smoked meat, bitterness chocolate, vanilla bean, and espresso. The hops come through more toward the finish, slightly dank and resiny. A touch astringent and boozy on the aftertaste. The mouth feel is smooth and medium to full-bodied, warming, oily and ashy. Of the Replicales I had, this is the one closest to an Imperial Double Stout in color, richness, and intensity. Nice job Chuck.
