COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A golden German style lager. A rich malty character and a generous amount of noble hop bouquet make this beer a favorite among brewers and patrons alike. 1st place & Best of Show California State Fair ’03, 1st place California State Fair ’01 & ’05, 2nd place California State Fair ’02

Hazy and golden. Mostly saaz and light diacetyl in the nose. Warming diacetyl on the palate. There’s a lot of saaz, medium bitterness for style, and fairly full-bodied malts. My misgivings are the diacetyl (acceptable in the style, but not to this high an amount IMO), and the lack of voluptuousness in the malts (they get a bit doughy).

On tap in Irvine, this golden pour had a mild sweetness and was easy to drink.

A: The pour is a pale straw color with a fizzy white head that dissipates quickly. S: Smells like a (bad) malt liquor. Corn syrup, apple juice, sugar, urine, and some grassy hops. T: More of the same in terms of the flavor. Sweet corn, apple juice, and some miscellaneous grain notes. Very minimal bitterness, but it’s more of an astringency. M: The body is light and watery and the carbonation is a bit low for a lager. D: Not really anything Czech about this. That is, unless corn syrup, apple juice, and grass are the characteristics of a Czech Pils.

Cleat golden with a medium to large off white head. Malty nose with notes of grassy hops. Flavour was dry with malt, grassy hops and hints of caramel. Finished dry and bitter.

UPDATED: FEB 15, 2012 On tap at the Pizza Port Session Ale fest. Listed as the Irvine Jagged Little Pils. Pours a clear gold with a white head. Aroma is grassy and bready, sweet with herbal, Saaz hops, Tons of them. Taste is clean with grass, saaz, a bit earthy and nearly some leather. No complaints here. Light bubbles, dry.

One of my favorite pilsners, clean and crisp, how that style should taste!

On-tap at Vista location. Pours pale yellow with a moderate size white head, spider web lace. Smells sweet, crisp and light malty. Tastes sweet and bright malty with some nice green hops. Tasty for a light ass yellow brew. Thin body, good carbonation.

This cleverly named Pils pours a clear dark golden color with a medium thin and fizzy white head that burns away steadily. Thin rings of lacing on the glass. Spicy Saaz hops aroma. Light-bodied and moderately hoppy with some malt backbone, as well as some spices. The finish is hoppy with a lingering hops aftertaste. Average overall.
