Black as Witch Hazel’s kettle, dense and opaque, with some glimmers of red shining around the edges...head is roasty brown, fluffy and creamy before drifting down to a tight ring.
Nose begins with bitter espresso notes, gloriously deep, light cocoa hints, spices, wondrously roasty, so far, so good!
Taste: minor hops, big malt, hardly bitter at all, but with that toasty coffee-toned flavor full on the palate. Chocolatey flavors peep up in the middle, and begin a thrilling litle courtship with the tastebuds. Full-bodied, earthy, spicy, but extra-smooth, easy drinkability. Wow, this is a top-notch porter.
From a 22 oz. bomber, which I wish would magically transform into a full keg, with a faucet I could drink from, like a hookah pipe...why not dream?
Braudog (3463), Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates Sep 24, 2006 Draft 6 oz’er at the brewpub: Pitch black; big head. Wonderful java aroma and a smooth, lightly smoky/lightly coffee’d flavor ... nice and light, yet with substantial character, this is a nice porter. waolsen (955), Littleton, Colorado, USA Mar 5, 2006 On tap. Deep brown with light tan head. Aroma of roasted coffee and malt. Nice, smooth taste of hops and malts. Strong malt and nutty aftertaste. glkaiser (909), Seattle, Washington, USA May 17, 2006 On tap at brewpub. Toasted malt aroma and taste with a slight espresso hint. Tasty. Very light hops. aracauna (2238), Georgia, USA Dec 22, 2006 Blackened blood body with a faint khaki head. This is really good. Rich chocolate, slight coffee. This is a pick of the litter.
