Our Two Penny is brewed with traditional roasted British malts and American hops (Chinook, AMarillo, Willamette). A double boiling, together with a first wort hopping, give it a rough, scruffy character that perfectly suits our modern beer-loving dockworkers.

Single 11.2 oz bottle purchased from Hunger Mountain (Montpelier, VT) for $4. To the snifter it pours a richly purplish dark-brown with a trim not-exactly-tan-but-not-exactly-khaki-either head. Like so many in the style, Iím getting a surge of figs and dates, roast, candi sugar, caramel, English yeast, cocoa and hops to the side. Damn fine! Tastes as it smells, however thereís an intriguing earthiness by swallow which is tryingly hushed by leather, charcoal and brown sugar. Getting some ginger notes, too. It has this rather interesting warming sensation you find out by your first sip, so not accurately hidden at all. Goes from sweet, to earthy to grainy to...I donít even know what! Exciting beer nonetheless. Glad I had the opportunity to try out a Swiss porter without having to travel very far. But, I donít know, this almost too sweet to handle. Iíd say this was one of the more unbalanced porters Iíve had. Finishing it, though.

30cl bottle from Pipetown Traders, pours a watery black with some soapy, white head. Nose has some sour cherry notes, toast and malt, stale coffee, stale cola. Flavor has more sour notes, cherry and raisin, a little vegetal, some caramel finally, toast, molasses. Finishes dry with a hint of tartness. Maybe thereís something wrong, but I liked it either way.

Black with medium than head, short lasting. Bittersweet aroma, molasses and burnt wood. Roasty taste, black olives, wood and some hidden sweetness in the final. Silky texture, full body, harsh mouthfeel

New Beer Distributors, NYC bottle ($6): pours black with a beige head. Aroma is light chocolate and light coffee. Taste is almost entirely dark chocolate for quite a while. More light bodies than I would think. Still some creaminess. Not a bad beer.

Acquistata fiera della birra ferrara fine 2014. Schiuma poco persistente. Colore scuro impenetrabile. Profumo affumicato e tostato.

On tap in Erzbierschof Zurich. Quite dark black with a big thick white head. Heavy chocolate and milky coffee flavours, not overly bitter, a bit of booze. Quite sweet and a bit lacticy actually. Hop not that pronounced. Tasty.

Dark black with red shades and brown foam. The smell has a lot of coffee. The taste has a particle dusty smoked coffee flavor, but a full smooth mouth feeling. Dry and smooth aftertaste.

Pours mahogany with a good lasting tan head. Aroma of toffee and liquorice. The taste is treacle, toffee and liquorice. Quite bitter. Full mouth feel. Some sourness to it, especially in the finish.
