On tap at Pibar, Lausanne. Dark brown, creamy beige head. Oranges and smoked malts nose. Notes of orangey whisky, caramel, roasted caramel. Well-balanced. Nice.

Bad, really bad. Is like Cynar! No whisky aroma, poor body... Bah! Poor brown with small head. No great notes of a classic. Really bad. I dont like it.

Bouteille 33cl @ Fiera della Birra di Ferrara, Nov 2013 dégustée dans ma chambre d’hôtel. BB 23-07-2023. Brune foncée, col beige fin. Arôme est malté sur un léger bouquet whiskey et un côté aigrelet complété par un fruité rappelant les sous-bois. Malt léger tirant sur le grillé avec un léger rappel chocolaté. Palais ets malté-grillé, avec ici aussi ce petit côté boisé aigre sur des petites notes boisées. Palais est moyen montrant qcq signes d’épaisseur. Petite note de fruité noir accompagne cette bière et toujours ce profil aigre qui quoique étant léger ne vient pas déranger mais diminue ma note globale. Au final, je préfère nettement la version régulière à 8% ici, ce côté whiskey ne joue pas en la faveur de la bière et perturbe un peu le profil porter. Les houblons sont aussi en retrait et vu le côté whiskey de la bière ces derniers ne sont pas vraiment à la fête.

Bottle. Pours Very Dark Brown with beige head. Nose of whiskey, licorice, dark fruit. Flavour is whiskey, alcohol, toffee, dark fruit. Too much whiskey for me, not balanced, call me a philistine if you wish.

Hazy brown color, flat, no head. Aroma of malt and fox grape, lightly dusty, then light feety. Correct body, the mouthfeel is lean; strong flavor of dark caramel, a touch of chocolate, but with a oily feeling; strong bitterness, some hard resins from the hop, and a terreux impression; very light whiskey trace; warming but not boozy. Some rhubarb candies.

Bottle; pours a very dark opaque red with a light brown head. Aroma of oak with some sweet malt. Taste: Burned malt, some earthy hop bitterness. Warms to a sweet burned toffee taste. Finishes with a oak-ish earthy bitterness. Very complex; warming mouthfeel. Very strong flavoured porter. Quite good; although the wood aging is almost too light. A definite winner!

330ml brown bottle. Very deep brown pour, almost opaque. Thin skiff of tan foam on top that drops out quickly. Some chocolate malt in the nose, cherry fruitiness. Taste has caramel, chocolate, whisky, vanilla, wood, cherries. Finishes roasty and with late bitterness. Black coffee, alcohol/whiskey and some wood aftertastes. Body is a bit lighter than expected. Overall a good strong porter.

DuffMan (6752) - the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, CANADA - JUL 1, 2013
Bottle. Very dark brown with a moderate tan head. Aroma features cramel overladen with sour cherries and musty wood. The palate is much the same, not quite sour, but certainly tart with unripened cherries and woody raw oak. Boozy but not harsh. I happened to like it, but not everyone will, especially those who are seeking a robust hearty roasty imperial porter. Unconventional, perhaps even beginning to go off, but I enjoyed it regardless.
