3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Cask conditioned at York Beer Festival ’14. Black with tan head. Initially this is quite sweet and fruity with a peachy edge but then a black coffee hint comes through, deeply roasty and dark, hints of dark chocolate. Improves through the beer and ends pretty decent.

Tap at brewdog shepherds bush. Pours dark brown/black with a tan head. Light creamy, choc aroma with light coffee. Medium body, medium carbonation. Light choc, light coffee, hint of toffee, light rum... It's good.

Bottle - Dark bitter roast malts and some dark fruit. Jet brown with a rich light brown head. Dark roast malts and the espresso slightly in the finish. A light fruity acidity is in the background which diminishes the richness.

Looks just like Espresso. Not as aromatic but can taste the beans. Hint of vanilla. Mild heat - like a minute dash of chili was added, Slight sour taste but balances well. Expected more nuttiness. Tastes like there’s a drop of 5X in there even though there isn’t. Roasty malt loaf finish sticks to roof of mouth. Good.

mega coffee aroma with brown sugar, pitch black body with thick tan head. Tastes sweet and rich flavours of molasses and coffee (obviously...) thinner on the palate than i expected but still really good!

Hand-pulled cask ale at York Tap, half-pint. Faint fawn-coloured head to a devil-black body. Quite rich aromas of roasted malts, tobacco, coffee, and chocolate sweetness. Brown and black malty flavours of liquorice, coffee and earth leading to a roasted bitter ending. Surprisingly easy to drink. Likeable (York 10.07.2014).

THX! to Kraddel. 33 cl. bottle split by 2 @ Barley Legal Tasting Room. Pours black with a spotty & incomplete mocha head. Nose is a bit strange, somewhat herbal (maybe there is a touch of age on this one?), coffee grounds, roasted malts. Taste carries slight coffee sourness, lots of grounds, very dark roasted coffee and espresso coffee beans, actual coffee / beans flavour here, seriously roasted malts, touch lactose, still doesn’t feel heavy. Ideal replacement for a cup of coffee overall. Almost bit more of a coffee geek than a beer geek beer. Not stellar but very enjoyable overall.
