Deep ruby pour. Aroma of citrus, with hints of bread. The flavor takes it to another level, though. The citrus remains, but is matched by a great, chunky, roasty malt profile that is more ambitious and complex than what Iím used to seeing in most ryePAs. Maybe not as balanced as some others, but I like what they did here. Well done.

Decent beer. Flavor is a good balance of malt and hoppiness. Overall nothing too special though

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Pour color is a very nice amber and red hue. Aroma is too strong of hops and dry hop notes for a red, has a metalic note with no malt backbone on the nose. Tatse is too bitter with no malt balance for the hops and has an astringent metallic finish. Close but not quite on this one, tone down the hops and boost the malt and it will be great.

Bottle. Pours an amber color with white head. Caramel, piney, hoppy aromas. Caramel, floral, grassy flavors. A nice drinkable beer, nothing exciting but solid.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Cloudy rust color with large foamy head. Citrus hops on the nose. Wow, surprising taste. Wasn't expecting it to be so hop-forward, which is a good thing. Has a west coast grapefruity hop flavor and balanced nicely with caramel-biscuit malts. Pleasantly surprised with this one. A hopped up easy-drinking amber ale.

Amber pour with a thick off white head.
Aroma is piney hop, caramel, toffee, nice toasted malt.
Bit on the lighter bodied side. Piney hop again, toasted malt. Lingering metallic bitterness.

Pour on tap at APN 2013, clear red pour with thin white head, aroma brought biscuit, caramel, slight spice notes with a ncie grassy, floral hop character as well. Taste is a mix of nice caramel, toffee, spice going into floral, grass, slight pine, hints of a fruity note as well, finishing spicy, bitter, and dry. Pretty decent.

Carmel aroma is perfect, creamy head with a lighter finish for a red. Hops are subtle, yet present. Had it on tap at new at moa. Lots of potential for this micro brew!

Pint at Happy Gnome - pour is reddish brown, but relatively light in color...medium whitish head. Aroma is sweet and lightly hopped - a slight note of roasted nuts in the background as well. Flavor is quite tasty...sweet, caramely malts are accented by mild, but notable resinous hops. Palate is easy drinking (granted, I had a number of higher ABV beers before this one) - I would happily quaff another in the future!

I am going to have to dissent from my fellow raters (to date) on this. This red ale looked decent enough, except for the cottage cheese-style head. But I really didnít enjoy it. The first third of the pint was harsh, with low flavor (pine) and harshly astringent finishing notes. The second third was a bit better as it warmed, in that it showed that it had some malt, but those too werenít rich and complex. The third of the pint...I left on the table. And, for what it offered, it was too high in the abv department--why go up to 6% in a hop-driven amber ale? 4.5% would have been just fine. Not to my liking, at all. (on tap, Grand Central, St. Paul)
