In 1989, when Baderbräu was first introduced in Chicago, its upstart spirit, revolutionary nature, and award-winning flavor won accolades and captured the imagination of a great city. Rooted in the old-world ideals of Eastern Europe’s top craftsmen and infused with bold American character, this beer dared to be greater. This beer started Chicago’s craft revolution. Its amber color, spicy hop-forward aroma, malty body, and creamy finish set this beer apart from all others. Its artful combination of only the finest ingredients–water, aromatic Czech and German Noble hops, a private strain of European lager yeast, and robust malts from the USA—make this beer a style all its own.

Golden color, small white head. The aroma is Saaz, hops and Pilsner malt. The flavor is similar, but with an overly strong bitter finish that is a little dry. Body is nice.

Bottle poured a clear gold with a lasting creamy white head. Aromas of bread, light yeast and light earthiness. Palate was light bodied and crisp with a smooth dry finish. Flavors of bread, earthiness and light fruitiness with a smooth dry finish.

From 12-oz bottle pours a clear golden pale colored brew with an average sized off-white head that slowly dissipates and leaves behind some spotty lacing. Aroma of golden grain malt, a hint of spicy grassy hops and a touch of spiced herbs. Taste is light to medium bodied, with flavors of golden grain malt and a hint of grassy hops. Finish is semi-dry with some roasted dry golden grain malt and a short spicy hop bitterness. Sorry, not even close to the original Baderbräu Pilsner flavor and profile I’ve enjoyed from Pavichevich Brewing Company back in the early 1990s.

In this day of craft beer, sometimes it is nice to just go back to the old days and have a pilsner. Especially a pilsner with the flavor of a craft beer. A nice mix of both.

12oz bottle. Probably wouldn’t have bought this had I known it was brewed at Stevens Point, a contract brewery that never seems to make a decent product. Grainy, dirty, sugar mouthfeel. Not true to style at all, though there is some bready, doughy tones...reminiscent of a lager at times. Head fades away after a few seconds. Just an embarrassingly sub-par product.

A solid take on a Czech pilsner with a crisp hoppy finish, a light malt background, and balanced profile. Sessionable and at home with most foods. Finish is somewhat bitter and long.

Pours a deep clean golden color with a dense, white, creamy head. Aroma has a lot of noble hops with a slightly sour, wet grainy husk nose. Flavor has a Heineken-like hops presence (grassy, spicy hops bite) with a lot more husky grain flavor at the finish of the brew. Body is light and clean with a modest amount of carbonation in the beer. Overall a good lagered brew with good drinkability.

Pour on tap, clear yellow pour with white head, aroma brought notes of malt, some sweet cracker notes, some soap, hints of bread, slight yeast, some slight spice. Taste is a mix of grass, bread, biscuit, some yeast, touch of soap, finishing dry, clean.
