Name change in August 2011 from Blandford Fly
With the hot summer sun beating down, the patient fly-fishermen of the Dorset Stour await their catch. These ’Flyers’ are celebrated in this warming ale with ginger overtones, rumoured to be originally included to remedy the bites of the infamous Blandford Fly. The rounded sweetness of this medium-bodied brew makes it an ideal and refreshing accompaniment to a hot lamb biryani or spicy crispy chilli beef.

Light clear amber with a light white head. Smells spicy with cinnamon and ginger, malt and a light fruity citrus. Medium thin body. Tastes like a normal bitter with malt, caramel being the defining elements with a clear ginger kick. Unfortunately the cheap pasteurisation leaves a chemical element on the finish. Nice spice attempt. Would be better as a cask.

500ml bottle. Clear golden colour with small to average, frothy, diminishing, off-white head. Spicy ginger aroma with a peppery touch, cautious caramel malty basis. Taste is slightly sweet caramel malty, ginger notes. Simple, monotonous, narrow - after all not too soapy.

Bottle from Sainsbury’s . Pours amber with an off-white head. The aroma is dog food. The taste is overly sweet with lemonade, ginger and meaty undertones. In my top 5 all time worst beers. Terrible.

Bottle. 5.2%. Best before 07.15. Pours a slightly hazy straw yellow/pale golden with an off-white head. Decent lacing. Ginger aroma, a bit candy-like and with a somewhat soapy overtone. Flavour is ginger with a light soapy feel to it as well. Sweet, bordering sugary. Finish is more ginger with a light fruity note in the background. Soapy note as it warms. Medium bitterness. Overall so-so; the ginger is okay, but is also very dominant, so it feels almost less than a beer than, say, a ginger ale (which does make it easy to drink though). Also could do without the soapy notes. 27.11.14.

Bottled. Very soulless. Malt cakes ,spicy hops, jam notes ,caramel covered sugary peach. It’s dull but ok .if that ain’t a fucken oxymoron.

strong ginger smell and stronger ginger taste quite over the topgolden, clear, minimal head, heavy cloying sweetness, lightly bitter, medium body, thin feel, average carbonation, the ginger taste is quite over the top to be honest wont be rushing for another 1

Aroma doce. Herval. Tubaína. Intensidade média. Sabor suave, adocicado, claro gengibre. Retrogosto adocicado também. Boa duração. Picante como a proposta!!!

A fine ginger beer for those who aren’t all that keen on ginger. Or fine beer, for that matter. Tastes like a mediocre bitter with a hint of bitter adding a hint of interest.

Bottle courtesy of Nelson at Aaron’s 3rd birthday. Light amber colour, decent carbonation. Drunk at room rather than cellar temperature or colder, and felt quite flabby, sweet malts and some very muddly spice. Maybe would have been more refreshing served from the fridge, but I prefer my ginger (and ginger beer) a bit fresher and sharper. A bit disappointing this.
