Name change in August 2011 from Blandford Fly
With the hot summer sun beating down, the patient fly-fishermen of the Dorset Stour await their catch. These ’Flyers’ are celebrated in this warming ale with ginger overtones, rumoured to be originally included to remedy the bites of the infamous Blandford Fly. The rounded sweetness of this medium-bodied brew makes it an ideal and refreshing accompaniment to a hot lamb biryani or spicy crispy chilli beef.

Light clear amber with a light white head. Smells spicy with cinnamon and ginger, malt and a light fruity citrus. Medium thin body. Tastes like a normal bitter with malt, caramel being the defining elements with a clear ginger kick. Unfortunately the cheap pasteurisation leaves a chemical element on the finish. Nice spice attempt. Would be better as a cask.

Mild fruity aroma. Light golden colour with little head. Definite ginger hit balanced with hops in the finish. Light body with medium carbonation.

Giving this a big ’meh’. Doesn’t have a fresh snap of ginger - just a tired old hint of it. Decent pour, odd smell, off flavour. This was a miss for me.

500ml bottle from Waitrose. Amber colour, with slight white head. Ginger and light caramel aroma. Strong ginger, sweet caramel flavour. Not great, a bit to ginger for me.

Nice if served slighty chilled or an hour. Smells like Ginger, lemon and malty spicy golden hops. Taste of strong ginger, lemon, bass shandy and acacia honey. A tasty honey, bitter lemon, sweet ginger and golden beer aftertaste. Best severed with jalfrezi or bhuna type currys. The aftertaste makes the beer worth drinking. Summer quencher.

Drunk from 50cl bottle bought in Wakefield. Taste of ginger but not as sweet as a ginger beer. Strange. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: MAY 10, 2014 Bottle from Sainsburys at home. Lively, effervescent pour - ginger and spice taste and sensation perhaps a bit overwhelming.

Il verdetto è univoco: troppo zenzero. Il gusto è completamente dominato da questa presenza oscura e dilagante, che a metà bevuta comincia a stancare e cancella qualsiasi altra sfumatura. Amaro impercettibile.

500ml bottle at home (gift). Dark gold with a fair amount of lacing. Head is small. Scent of ginger and mulled spices with a bit of pee. Taste is sulphur-awful at first, then the sweetness of the ginger takes over. I don’t normally like ginger in my beer but this comes as a blessed relief. Gets better as I drink it, bordering on ok. I just don’t get on with this beer particularly well but not bad enough to drain pour.

Appearance: Clear amber with 2 finger thick white head. Aroma: Ginger, yeasty, bready and umami. Taste: Medium bitter and sweetness with low sourness. Palate: Thick lightly coarse texture, light body, average carbonation, lingering malty finish with a ginger undertone and subtle fiery heat (oxymoron). Comments: Good and glass lace. It is still a beer and not an alcoholic soft drink!
