COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Seasonal - Winter.
Ingredients: Pale, crystal and chocolate malts; Saaz and Goldings hops.
"A rich, full-bodied, amber ale. Saaz and Goldings hops give it a floral, fruity and spicy character, whilst the use of both crystal and chocolate malt imparts nutty, toffee and liquorice flavours."

Cask conditioned at the Hit or Miss, Penn Street, Buckinghamshire. A forth attempt at this rather horrible pub not so far from me. So much is promise by this place, the building is very nice, it is quite cozy inside, but somehow they have managed to turn it in to a dump. This was served far too cold but as it warmed up it was a pleasent enough malty and fruity bitter with the pleasent fresh cask feel in the mouth. I was luck to get this one as fresh as I did, as they usually serve rotten beer here.

Cask (Ship & Shovel): Amber with a tan head. Sweetish malts, toffee notes. Pretty standard bitter.

Cask Conditioned at The Prince Edward, Bayswater, London. Dark reddish amber beer with bubbly head. Smooth fruity soft beer, plenty of plum, grape in the mouth and a touch of pear drop giving a sharpness. Rounded and sweetly short on the finish. Underlying caramel flavour but still thin on the palate. Steay beer but not a winter warmer.

Toasted malt nose, deep amber, low head. Toffee notes, mostly a light toasted malt. Low bitter - a little too low. Just a slight earthy end. Light, thin, drinkable.

Cask at The Ship & Shovell, London: Very nice red color with a small long lasting head. Roasted malt and caramel nose. Toffee and also light roasted malt and caramel in the taste - thin. Decent brew but nothing special.

Cask at The Ship & Shovell, Charing Cross. Attractive bronzy colour. Dryish with some toffee and caramel. Not very rich for a winter ale. Solid but unspectacular. Shame the King & Barnes Old Ale has been elbowed aside to make way for this.

Pint pulled at The Harbour Inn in Axmouth (Devon), a clear dark amber with a frothy head. A flowery malt aroma (and elderflower?). A little fruit in the flavour along with flavoury malt. Bitter through the mouth.

Cask handpull at Phoenix, Canterbury. Ruby beer with bubbly thin beige head. Some yeast but also dark red fruit. Winter beers are a bit sweeter I think this year. Touch of vanilla. Smooth sweet fruit finish has yeast and some puckering of the mouth. Quite pleasant with yeast/sour sweet fruit.

Mungo (2472) - Southampton, Hampshire, ENGLAND - NOV 21, 2005
Cask conditioned @ Jolly Sailor, Bursledon. A malty bitter with caramel and light chocolate notes and a smooth fruity hop finish. Largely unexceptional but served in good condition in a nice surrounding made it a delight to drink.
