Dorqui (1552) - Brescia, ITALY - APR 24, 2006
UPDATED: SEP 13, 2007 Cask at The Stephen’s Tavern (Westminster - London).
Light and fading head. Burnt red color, limpid and rather firm. Fresh and flowery scent with a pleasant hoppy nose. Dry and arid taste, much bitter and medium alcoholic final. Decidedly hoppynes and bitter on a good persistence end.

Cask conditioned at The Prince Edward, Bayswater, London. Dark reddish amber colour with bubbly head. Bright fragrant beer with a dusty hop aroma. The body is a little sweetish with a long hop bitterness giving some palate dryness on the finish. Easy drinking pleasant bitter, good for a session.

Cask conditioned, GBBF 2005: Brown appearance. Malty and toffee notes in the flavour. Not particular balanced nor complex.

UPDATED: MAR 24, 2006 Cask (handpump) at GBBF, August 2005. Badger have put a lot of time and promotional activity into this beer. Its certainly an attractive enough beer - a rich copper colour. But, after that, although its perfectly pleasant, I thought it fell a bit short. The aroma is gently grassy, but a bit short of intensity. On the palate its quite dry and fresh with dabs of citric hop, a smidgen of fruit and a dash of bitterness. But it didn’t really have enough of anything to make a lasting impression. So it ends up in the overpopulated British "solid but unspectacular" camp. (5/4/6/3/12/3.0). RE-RATE. Fountain Inn, Chichester, 25 Feb 2006. On far better form than my first tasting. Bright, mid copper colour. Hops far better defined. Very citric. Crisp and refreshing.

Mungo (2472) - Southampton, Hampshire, ENGLAND - OCT 28, 2005
Cask conditioned @ Jolly Sailor, Bursledon. This was a drinkable if unexciting brew with light citric and malt aromas. I tried a test cask of this in June at the Talisman in Park Gate. The beer has improved considerably since then as it the relatively delicate hop character was swamped by sweet malty caramel and obnoxious sulphur.

Draught, 9/9/05. Smell is half fruit, half Daz. Deep treacle with a firm, creamy head. Very sharp and sour at first, but mellows into a refreshing finish of sour mash yeast with hints of melon.

Caramel, toffee and fresh leafy hops greet the nose. Clear copper coloured body with low off-white head. Caramel and dark malts meld with leafy, floral,, earthy hops leading up to a mild finishing bitterness. Light body with a creamy texture and soft carbonation. Cask at GBBF 2005.

Cask conditioned - handpump - GBBF 2005. A mid brown coloured beer with a reasonably well balanced nose of malt and hop. The taste again was quite decent and balanced. A little bit of sulphur crept in at the end though to spoil things a little.

Cask at GBBF 2005. Dark copper colour, typical Badger yeast nose. OK fruit but thin finish. In fact this seemed a little stale and dull so may not have been in the best of condition for a tasting
