Previously called Golden Champion Ale
The light, refreshing character of our award-winning golden ale is distinguished by its subtle elderflower aroma, reminiscent of a summer’s evening. Champion is particularly rewarding when served chilled. On a balmy evening in Stanpit Marsh, a cool breeze blows and a calm encompasses the vast reserve. Amongst the wild horses, you may see Golden Champion, a headstrong but loyal stallion who enjoys the warm days grazing in th fields. The subtle elderflower aromas of this delicately floral brew are reminiscent of a summer’s evening. This divine all-rounder is a great companion for smoky, chargrilled chicken and peppery rocket salad.

Lemon/lime hop aroma. Pours golden in colour with a frothy white head and decent carbonation. Bitter hoppiness with elderflower notes. Crisp bitter finish.

500 ml bottle bought at YATA in Grand Century Place, Mong Kok during “YATA Oktoberfest” promotion.

Clear golden amber honey colour; Three-quarter finger head with soapy white foam which lasted for 1 minute; Excellent sticky lacing with fizzy carbonation; Strong sweet aroma of Ale malt, with peaches, strong honey, floral nectar, light elderflower, lemon and raw grass; Mid to light sweet taste of light ale malt, with light tangerines, light peaches, melon, floral, molasses notes, cream crackers, lemon, quite strong bitter hops and sharp grass; Light body, watery palate; Mouth feel is Summer-type golden ale with good maltyness and light touches of peaches, very watery tangerines with flashes of melon - fruity taste is not that fresh and really light to be impressive. Low sweet, light breadyness but strong grassy hops keeps the interest going… Hoppiness is peaches, lemon, light elderflower and fresh grass in nose. Lemon, floral and sharp grass in taste. Bitterness is quite strong but peters out quickly for an abrupt mid- astringent finish; Fairly dry after taste. Fairly malty and quite bitter to mouth.

Comments: Compare to Golden Glory, this one is light on fruitiness and getting tough on hops. The result is rather bland, as the flowery nose and tangerine taste are airy at best, the hops are grassy fresh but ended suddenly. Overall it’s an okay Blond, but simply not up to the standard as Golden Glory. Nah!

50cl bottle from Tesco. Poured a clear mid golden colour, with a thin white head and visible force carbonation. Aroma of boiled sweets, somewhat tart fruit and candy sugar. Some elderflower notes in the flavour, with a mineral element and some grain. Finish was slightly metallic, with noticeable tinned fruit and straw. No thanks.

Bottle from Tesco, Kingston, MK. Medium gold, big supermarket ale bubbles in the carbonation. No head. Aroma of hay, garden flowers, butterscotch. Taste is sweet, and a bit cloying: Orange soda notes with a hint of floral hop. Bittersweet finish. Not all that really.

Bottle. Clear yellow with a large slowly diminishing good lacing white head. Surprisingly fruity for the style, almost perfumy, but it’s pretty good. Flowery with a spicy touch a bit like cedar, perhaps some ginger and oranges, light white bread, dusty. Medium body, soft carbonation, light/medium sweet and bitter. Hoppy finish.

A very fragrant blond ale, which despite it’s floral notes, gives quite a clean finish.

Birra onesta, piuttosto fruttata, leggermente amara nel finale. Piacevole e beverina ma mai sopra le righe. Non entusiasma in nessuna delle sue qualità pur restando una discreta birra.

BOTTLE 50 CL. Look: clear amber/brandy colored, off-white creamy head with good retention. Aroma: sweet flowers, some spicy herbal hops, ginger or elderberry, light toast. Taste: toasted bread, a bizarre mix of light salty and sweet, ginger or elderberry, very little to no hop bitterness.
