Keg at The Portsmouth Hoy, Poole, Dorset. Pale gold with white head, carbonated. Thin and watery lager with a soapy sweetness, very cold. Rate not want not.

Clear light to medium yellow orange color with a small to average, frothy, good lacing, mostly diminishing, white to off-white head. Aroma is light moderate malty, grain, hay, toasted, light hoppy, light grass, light metalic. Flavor is moderate sweet and bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium to light, texture is watery to oily, carbonation is soft, finish feel is light metalic. [20100101]

Keg, Horsham, as ’Extra Cold’, or some such nonsense. Had no idea this was being brewed under license by H&W, so thought I’d struck Bavarian gold here, and stumbled upon the only pub in England selling Hofbrau. That may or may not have influenced my enjoyment of what I found to be a pretty authentic replication of the stuff brewed in Munich. Proper herbally hop snout, even superchilled. Nice blend of light grassy/herbally hops and biscuity malts. These aren’t meant to be complex beers. Piss pale, delicate and lovely. And so much better than the kind of tasteless lagery bilge I’m occasionally forced to drink in English pubs.

On Tap at Prince Edwards, Bayswater. Clear golden colour with small white fully diminishing head. Malty aroma. Sweet bitter flavor.

Keg at St Stephens Tavern, Westminster. Golden colour with a thin head but lasting carbonation. Not much aroma. Reasonably sharp but more from the carbonation than from hops. The palate is rather soapy with a chalky/slaty mouthfeel. Bog standard UK style lager really, despite the Germanic posturing.

Tap. Aroma of banana and coriander. Very high carbonation and spritzyness. Taste is fresh and malty sweet. Feels a little like a wheat beer. A touch watery and too much carbonation - otherwise quite good.
