3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Rodders (137) - Norwich, - MAR 5, 2009
(Cask at the Ship and Shovel, London) For some reason I seem to be drinking a lot of golden ales these days, despite them being usually unextraordinary. This was murky golden, but with a perfect white head. Smell was pretty good - malty for a golden ale, elements of biscuits and and good orange hop character. Mouthfeel was smooth though - I prefer golden ales to have a bit of bite, smoothness for darker ales. Taste was initially malty biscuit soon giving way to citrus hops, in a bittersweet combination that was quite pleasant. Refreshing, as these ales tend to be, and perfectly nice. Not the best example of the style I’ve had though.
2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 tombyars (1102) - Saltcoats, SCOTLAND - OCT 2, 2011
Tasted this in the Last Post, Paisley (JDW) in April 2008. Cask, handpump dispense. Clear golden amber in colour with a thin white head. Slight dusty notes in the short fragrant hop aroma. Slight yet thin mouthfeel and poor lacing. Pale malts give a thin grapefruit note which lends a poor dry hop flavour in the weak aftertaste. Finish is thin, dry and uninspiring. Poor effort from Badger.

Cask, handpump at a pub near the river The KIngs Arms, Hampton Court) Thames Tipple Leg 9 Hampton to Kingston Upon Thames 13-03-10 Pours lemon in colour with a good white head. This is an easy drinking beer and yet another beer I note in superb condition, really well kept even if it isn’t the best beer in the world. Not as hoppy as it could be. Maybe a bit too malty, for a supposedly hoppy beer, but it was absolutely fine. A6 A5 F6 P4 Ov12 3.3

I sampled this at the Ship and Shovel at Charing Cross (the larger bar). A decent goldenish ale. Fairly hoppy and a little sweet, if a touch bland - very quaffable though. Came in a strange, slightly gay, continental style glass.

Handpulled cask at JDW Watford during recent international beer fest. Dark gold with a thick creamy off-white head. A warming malt aroma. A grainy malt flavour that becomes a richer caramel through the swallow. Quite a hoppy finish, giving it a drying character. A complex beer and quite enjoyable.
