sm89walt (168), Norwich and Canterbury, Norfolk, England Jan 14, 2008 Bottle. From Badger, the Pickled Partridge pours a dark copper colour with a thick off-white head that takes some time to disappear and leaves behind a nice lacing on the glass. Quite carbonated in the beginning but this soon dies down. Its aromas are hoppy - citric fruits and a floral element - but also a touch metallic at times too unfortunately. The flavours are nicely roasted with more fruit and floral notes as well as a sweetish toffee flavour and a fairly chewy mouthfeel.
johndoughty (1567), cheslyn hay, West Midlands, England May 17, 2008 Bottle. Tawny appearance and a pleasant freshness about it. Slightly malty with a medium body. Impressive. Mungo (2474), Southampton, Hampshire, England Mar 25, 2008 Bottle. Overly sweet with lots of toffee, fortunately there are some toasty flavours to provide extra interest. Slight boiled bottled flavours to the malt, hops not noticeable other than as a bit of mild bitterness in the finish. DruncanVeasey (1533), Burbage, Croatia Mar 2, 2008 Bottle. Sourish, nutty, slightly cabbagey malt/yeast aroma almost exactly like Westvleteren 8. I’m not making this up. Onion-like hops in the snout as it cooks. Wet dunked doughy biscuit and vanilla egg custard with nutmeg. Yep, that’s exactly it. All Badger’s bottled beers have that signature taste, and I like it. But it’s predictable. joe1961_2 (369), camberley, Surrey, England Feb 23, 2008 Bottle. Poured a dark amber colour with a small thin white head. Their is not much aroma but just a hint of malts, with citrus and hops. The taste is citrus with a large hint of spices with a dry bitter finish.
downender (1458), Bristol, Gloucestershire, England Feb 16, 2008 Bottle. Deep amber with a big, off-white head. Subdued malt and spice aroma. Flavour of dried fruit with some caramel and a decent bitter finish. Ok.
