COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle: Pasteurised.
Seeking out the treasures of the countryside and making the most of local ingredients is an art shared by Badger and the wily poacher. Badger's Poacher's Choice captures unique rural flavours in a smooth, dark ale enhanced by a touch of liquorice for spicy sweetness and damson for a soft, subtly fruity taste. A gutsy ale that's worth tracking down.

I do not think I have ever been as appalled by a beer as I was by this once. I took a couple of sips and poured the rest down the sink, as did my drinking companions. The aroma suggests nothing so much as Jolly Rancher sweets and the flavour is redolent of cough medicine. A vile beer from an overrated brewery.

pours dark brownRed with a fine white head. aroma of sour and acid berries, honey, hops. aroma is terrific. flavor is not. the fruit is much sweeter to the taste, and the beer bitterness dont go well for balance. it gets sort of artificial lollipop that is too old. bitterness is not piny hops bitterness but more like vomit bitterness. alc well hidden.

(Bottle 50 cl) Courtesy of fonefan. Clear, deep amber golden with a creamy, off-white head leaving laces. Distinct aroma of blueberries. Medium body, sweetish fruity with some caramel. Distinct blueberry notes – really reminds me of a blueberry muffin! 220808

Bottle from Tesco. Horrible. I can’t put into words how wrong this beer is. Cloying on the palate, revolting chemical taste and a sickly, all-pervasive odour (the word ’aroma’ has pleasant connotations). Never, ever again.

UPDATED: MAY 12, 2009 Bottle, thx to fonefan. It pours a clear, golden body with a quite small white head. Some licorice-like aromas combined with a malty background. Fennel, toffee and some butterscotch in the flavor. Medium body. It finishes with a malty sweetness, a licorice touch, fruityness and some bitterness. An unusual flavor profile still provides good drinkability, but it fails to excite or impress. Rating: 5-3-5-3-11-2.7. (080822)

Bottle. A clear, copper beer topped by a small, off-white head. Fruity nose with licorice, tending towards some caffeine energy drink. Licorice, candy, some sweetness and a little bitterness in the mouth, medium to full-bodied. Quite effervescent. I’m not really sure about this one, it’s both nice and not, maybe because it feels a bit artificial. (090430)
