3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle (in NZ). Woah - this is a little usual. Herbacous, licorice, fruity - it’s all a bit too contrasting. A bottle best shared I think.

From the bottle at the Peacock’s Farm in Bracknell. Dark amber, with little or no head. Pleasant fruity aroma. Bitter and fruity, with a bit of liquorice.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
One I’ve been enjoying quite often of late so time to rate it!
Into a pint just on cool. As translucent as polished crystal with sparse, intermittent carbonation. The body a deep, ruddy chestnut. A Houdini head goes up and disappears with haste to a thin pad of beige. The liquorice stands out on the aroma, with topsoil, plums and damp wood coming through. Quite earthy and raw with a little edge of heather and chamomile. Quite smoky in the mouth with a lot of charred wood, dowdy bitter woody herbs and more wood. Liquorice is subdued, almost background now, the damson more assertive. Good level of darker fruit sweetness balances out its mildly astringent malt (woody) swallow, the fruit also fills it out well. Aniseed builds as it goes, lingering long in the mouth. It tastes as though someone put a dash of Unterberg or Opal Nera in my Southern Brown Ale. At just 5.7% it packs quite a punch. Good meaty body to it (even as it’s pasteurised and filtered!), a soft spritzy mouthfeel with a long drop off. Interesting stuff, think I’ll have another! (50cL, BB 01/12, Thirsty Camel Butler)

Dark amber color, with plenty of white foam. Hoppy-berry aromas, slightly tart, very fruity. Starts fruity acidity, intense aroma of wild berries and roasted malt. The center part is extremely tart / bitter and sour, still remains the strong berry aroma. The hop aroma goes back so far, the roasted malt is also weaker. The finish is again much more acidic, with massive berry aromas. Getting used to, but somehow like it!

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Leicht trocken-bitter abflauend. Eigenartiges Bier - aber auch nicht ganz schlecht.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from Waitrose in London. Pours copper with a 3 finger beige head. Deep, rich aroma of ripe plum. Starts fairly sweet with background bitter. It’s not simply arranged. It’s malty, plum fruity, and has a herb of some sort. There is bitter, but it’s not a bitter drink, unless the herb is counted in. Interesting.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Dark reddish amber with medium cream head. Aroma of plums, cherries (OK, damsons is clearly right), pears, licorice. Sweetish taste with some sharpness as well from the berries, plenty of licorice too. Some spice at the end. Not a lot of depth but good balance despite the pasteurised deadness - a pretty good fruit beer.

(Bottle 29/3-2011) The taste is a bit like raspberries. A bit thin but still a decent beer.
