COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle: Pasteurised.
Seeking out the treasures of the countryside and making the most of local ingredients is an art shared by Badger and the wily poacher. Badger's Poacher's Choice captures unique rural flavours in a smooth, dark ale enhanced by a touch of liquorice for spicy sweetness and damson for a soft, subtly fruity taste. A gutsy ale that's worth tracking down.

Bottle 50cl, a clear amber beer with low head. Nose is just on berries. Aroma is dry just full of berries and elderflowers, medicine notes with mint finish. Just awful and undrinkably dry grassy astringent stuff.

Light and fruity lolly like aroma. Clear ruby red colour with good head. Sweet malt and boiled lolly flavour with smooth finish. Medium to heavy body with low to medium carbonation.

Clear, reddish-amber beer with a foamy off-white head and a pungent, sugary fruit aroma. I feared from the smell that the flavour would be overpowering or sickly but itís not. I think itís the liquourice, which Iím not usually a fan of, which balances out the tangy fruit enough to stop that happening. Itís not one Iíd rush back to because it is a touch sweet for my taste but itís not bad.

Drunk from 50cl bottle bought in Wakefield. Dark ale flavoured with hint of liquorice and damson. Not unpleasant. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: JUL 1, 2014 500ml bottle pours a dark brown colour with a strong malty fruity aroma, full body, definite sweet aftertaste with what I presume is licorice. Appreciated other badger ales but didnt really enjoy this one.

My local beer brewed just a few miles away, the flagship Badger beer in my book, rich comforting ,a great winter ale ,a bowl of spicy plums in a bottle, but not too sweet, a unique beer that stands out from the crowded ale market .

Bottle. Dark amber ale with a thick off-white head. Nose is like a bag of confectionary shrimps and pontefract cakes. Sugary licorice. In the mouth, itís even more sugary. Getting a touch more sweet licorice. Maybe Iíve had this standing too long, but the sugars are taking over a bit too much. Thereís a smidgin of damson. Not really subtle enough at this stage, for me.

Bottle at home from Sainsburys. An interesting combination of the sweet and the heavy - always been a go-to last beer of the night for me. There's better out there but I have a soft spot for this

A very nice and moreish ale from Badger delivering what it said on the bottle. As well as the sweetness, some people could maybe find the damson and liquorice a little overpowering but it suited my palate. Being a strong ale, it was hardly surprising to find it was also quite solvent alcoholic, and had other ester characters present such as isoamyl acetate and ethyl acetate. I would definitely recommend you try it! I also agree it would go very well with a strong mature cheese.

500 ml bottle bought at foodGARDEN in D2 Place, Lai Chi Kok.

Clear amber brown colour with no yeast sediments; Less then one quarter head with residual beige foam which fades in 30 seconds; Moderate sticky lacing with fizzy carbonation; Very fragrant and sweet aroma of ale malt, with strong damson, Ribena concentrate, blackcurrant, bubblegum, liquorice, and sugar; Nice mid to light sweet taste of light ale malt, with damson, light plum, Ribena, light blackcurrant, molasses, flower petals, biscuits, light yeast, faint lemon and shades of grass; Close to light body, thin and slightly slick palate; Mouth feel is light ale malt wrapped in rich but light damson and sweet plums. Blackcurrant taste abound, like Ribena with notable astringency, but thankfully itís lighter and less sweet than the aroma; Also some nice flowery taste plus light biscuits. InterestingÖ Hoppiness is light floral, plus faint lemony grassy hops in nose and taste; No much bitterness, just light fruity astringency to match with a sweet finish; Slightly dry after taste, fairly sweet and fruity to mouth.

Comments: A very dark-fruity ale verging on unreal or maybe artificial, its damson and liquorice aroma and taste are stronger than the label suggests. I found it a tad sweeter than it should, but itís still quite refreshing. Tuned down the sweetness, and thisíll be a winner. Worth a try.
