I got this unexpected little gem from Asda for a quid. It had that distiinctive malty badgers’ taste along the lines of a First Gold, but a bit less tasty and thinner, which isn’t surprising given the alcohol content. Not bad.

Bottled, 500ml pasteurised from Asda, Leamington. Brown amber with thin white head. Thin, slightly sweet malty bitter, cardboardy with caramel & toffee notes, malty, below average.

bottle, Asda Brynmawr. Deep amber-golden colour with a small white head. Light-bodied, slightly malty with a touch of toffee and fudge, with a pleasantly bitter hoppy finish. Light and refreshing.

Bottle picked up in Asda, Peterborough, Cambs’ 22-01-09. Pours mid gold with a white head. Aroma is quite floral but typically Badger. Taste is a little malty and sweet, bit fruity, some sweet toffee, nothing great. A5 A4 F5 P3 OV12 2.9

Half pint at the Capitol, a Lloyds No.1 Bar, in Dundee and a third pint at Standing Order in Edinburgh. Deep, rusty-brown body. Laceworks on the glass, but missing head. Weak smell of citric fruits. Light spicy fruits to the my taste buds with a few bitter endnotes. Rather watery in the mouth and, in fact, pretty anonymous bitter [07.11.2008].

From cask at Food of the Walk. Pours clear and golden deep orange with a small and dense creamy white head. Mild roasted malty aroma with a light bitterness showing through. Light spiced finish. Smooth and dry. Easy brew.

Canterbury Spoons. Chesnut with white rim. Watery apple, wood and berry fruit. Lick of varnish. Chewed HB bitterness, including the lead. Vanilla aroma. That soggy egg custard Badger thing. Dusty hop strawberry dullness, Hubba Bubba, wood, nuthusk. Demolished by Jalfrezi and pretty messy.

Amber color. FCW (F***ing Close to Water): light paper aroma, light caramel flavor, ordinary bitterness, above-ordinary boredomness.

A Mes rate: cask at the Crosse Keys ’Sporks.
Very dark copper with a thin white bubbly head. Fruity malt aroma with some slight earth and very delicate hoppage. Flavour is tea and some more fruity malt which is a little too rough at the edges. Earthy finish. Pretty dull.

Cask at ’Spoons, Milton Keynes in Wetherspoons Festival ’08. Amber with a small white head. A hint of milky coffee in the aroma. Earthy, biscuity malt taste, Mid bitter and rather good.

Amber/copper pint with no real head. Quite thin drinking, taste is malty, toast-like and straw hops, not too exciting.
