3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 TheGrandMaster (2313) - Auckland, NEW ZEALAND - OCT 25, 2010
Draft at The Aldgate (Tokyo), a cloudy pale amber with a super foamy ice-cream head. Fruity perfume on the nose. A creamy palate with berry fruit and raw grain. Dry and tart.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Capa (1632) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 22, 2009
Golden orange with a white head. Strong wheat ale notes in the aroma. banana, clove, sweet malts, candied malts, yeast. Very full mouth. Flavor is close to a wheat. Banana, malts, yeast, light spices, and just a hint of rye. A good beer, but disappointing if you wanted some rye flavors. Why are so many "rye" ales lacking rye characteristics?

Who doesn’t love the trash zone? great pour...pure weizen with a bit of bitterness due to the rye,,my first time for the style so I am a bit of a novice but a nice twist on a weizen
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 KyotoLefty (3752) - Kyoto, JAPAN - SEP 10, 2008
UPDATED: OCT 26, 2008 2007 version, bottle.
Orange-brown color. Very cloudy, low fine head. Aroma similar to a weizen. Malty, spicy, bananas, plus a sour note. Very interesting rye malt flavor. Weizen-like, but really different. Very fruity, with lots of bananas and some citrus. Cloves and other spices. Good hops. The best of the Japanese rye beers I have tried. Very complex. Fresh, fruity, excellent. Very much like a good medium to dark weizen, but a bit different.
2008 bottled version got exactly the same score (blind). I also had it on tap, but it was thinner and completely lacked the complexity of the bottle. I think the ’’’’hefe’’’’ was missing from my glass. This is great.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 TimE (2065) - Tokyo, JAPAN - OCT 9, 2006
UPDATED: NOV 14, 2007 Dark golden color. Rye, whisky, wheat in the nose. This is much more of a rye wheat than anything. Like spritzy body that has the esteriness of a hefe, but the spiciness of the rye really adds character and dries things out. Very thrist quenching. Love it.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20 AceOfHearts (1375) - San Francisco, California, USA - JAN 28, 2006
Bottle. Straw color, pretty clear, lasting thin eggshell head. Strong rye presence but well-balanced. Firm mouthfeel, bready, very malt-forward and satisfying. A little spicy, some orange peel.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 ante (3375) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - MAY 13, 2005
Clioudy orange with a large, lively, frothy head. Bready aroma of oranges and apricots. Fruity but a bit thin flavour of white bread and oranges . Light sourish aftertaste, hints of ryebread and potatoes.

Bottled, thanks IslandHaole!
Cloudy orange, extremely lively, huge head. Aroma of bubblegum and bread. Papery and fruity, fairly sweet with clean mouthfeel and notes of blackberries. Short, salty finish. Flavourful and interesting.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 DocLock (5966) - Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 22, 2005
Thanks to IslandHaole for this one. Pours turbid dark brown with big white head. Aroma of hopcit, some apricot, slight berries, and slight rye bread. Tastes dry, bready, with hopcit, and some tart fruitiness at the finish. Nice complexity. This is a superb beer. As I expected, there was a layer of yeast at the bottom of the bottle.
