3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 highlandlad (1325) - Blue Mountains, AUSTRALIA - MAY 7, 2008
An unusual winter beer out of Japan but pretty damn tasty. Cloudy butterscotch colour with low suds and busy carbonation. The aroma echoed the brewer’s hefe - heavy on the wheat, plenty of clove, supplemented by some diacetyl. The beautiful creamy body carries the 7% abv very well. Chewy wheat malts and a big clove finish. Very tasty. Liked this one a lot. (Bottle courtesy of TimE at Sully’s Sydney RB gathering Xmas 07 - thanks amigo)

Cloudy orange with a thin white head. Aroma is sweet malts, yeast, spice, fruit, banana, and wheat. Body is silky smooth. Flavor is banana, fruity, spices, clove, and wheat. A bit of a tart, bitter finish. Really enjoyed this one.

Muddy amber color. Bubblegum, clovess and milk chocolate in nose. Banana split, clovey mouth that is relatively well balanced. Slightly tart, chocolately finish. Nice.

Bottled. Cloudy brownish orange coloured. Yeasty banana aroma. Sweet flavour with quite some wheat and banana. Rather thin.

Cloudy reddish-chestnut colour. Big, flowery, estery aroma of roses, banana, plums and hints of bubblegum and pear. A lot of stuff going on here. Highly floral and bananaish character, with hints of caramel malts and a touch of balancing acidity (I hate to say that because people might think the beer is tart - it’s not - but the acidity is the only thing keeping this from being super-cloying). It’s definitely a weizenbock...a fairly simple one, though.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 ante (3375) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - MAY 13, 2005
Hazy reddish brown. Malty aroma of grass, banana, smoke and toffee. Malty estery flavour of tofffee, light chocolate and banana. Yeasty aftertaste.

UPDATED: MAY 16, 2005 Bottled, thanks IslandHaole! Cloudy orange brown. Estery pineapple aroma. Flavour of rye and bubblegum. With it’s restrained sweetness, well hidden alcohol and slim, yet firm body it is strangely like a good Finnish sahti. Almondy finish, more like in Belgian ales. A tasty and very interesting beer, but what is it? A weizenbock from partly rye malt, or?

IslandHaole with the hook up on this one! Very cloudy brown/orange pour, very small head. Rich sweet aroma, pepper, and yeast. Island Haole nailed the taste: Sweet malts, banana and pepper. Very unique and very tasty! I really like this...a real treat!

A dark hazey brown with a beige head. (Looks as if I just poured another Moinette that I just finished) One sniff quickly ends all notion of that, this is a sweet malty monster with the banana/clove scent reminiscent of Aventinus (one of my favorite beers that I’ve been unable to find here) I also get a touch of smoke from this. Looks and smells just great, now for the true test....Oh yes, sweet malts with the banana flavor and a spicy black pepper taste. A three hour drive and I only picked up one of these... What was I thinking?
