highlandlad (1187), Sydney, Australia May 7, 2008 An unusual winter beer out of Japan but pretty damn tasty. Cloudy butterscotch colour with low suds and busy carbonation. The aroma echoed the brewer’s hefe - heavy on the wheat, plenty of clove, supplemented by some diacetyl. The beautiful creamy body carries the 7% abv very well. Chewy wheat malts and a big clove finish. Very tasty. Liked this one a lot. (Bottle courtesy of TimE at Sully’s Sydney RB gathering Xmas 07 - thanks amigo)
Capa (737), Yokosuka, Japan Nov 24, 2007 Cloudy orange with a thin white head. Aroma is sweet malts, yeast, spice, fruit, banana, and wheat. Body is silky smooth. Flavor is banana, fruity, spices, clove, and wheat. A bit of a tart, bitter finish. Really enjoyed this one. TimE (1019), Tokyo, Japan Jan 6, 2006 Muddy amber color. Bubblegum, clovess and milk chocolate in nose. Banana split, clovey mouth that is relatively well balanced. Slightly tart, chocolately finish. Nice. Hildigöltur (5052), København Ø, Denmark Jul 13, 2005 Bottled. Cloudy brownish orange coloured. Yeasty banana aroma. Sweet flavour with quite some wheat and banana. Rather thin. Oakes (6853), Miami Beach, Florida, USA May 21, 2005 Cloudy reddish-chestnut colour. Big, flowery, estery aroma of roses, banana, plums and hints of bubblegum and pear. A lot of stuff going on here. Highly floral and bananaish character, with hints of caramel malts and a touch of balancing acidity (I hate to say that because people might think the beer is tart - it’s not - but the acidity is the only thing keeping this from being super-cloying). It’s definitely a weizenbock...a fairly simple one, though.
