KyotoLefty (3752) - Kyoto, JAPAN - SEP 10, 2008
UPDATED: DEC 18, 2008 2008 version. Bottle from Yamaoka. Creamy wheat aroma. Tons of bananas, cloves. A touch of citrus and melon. Cloudy orange-amber color with a tall, fine head. Big wheat flavor, with banana cream, cloves, melon, alcohol. Creamy and rich, sweet but not overly so. Decent sour edge and good bitterness in the finish. Complex but well balanced. Velvety smooth and thick palate. A great winter warmer weizen.

UPDATED: MAY 16, 2005 Bottled, thanks IslandHaole! Cloudy orange brown. Estery pineapple aroma. Flavour of rye and bubblegum. With it’s restrained sweetness, well hidden alcohol and slim, yet firm body it is strangely like a good Finnish sahti. Almondy finish, more like in Belgian ales. A tasty and very interesting beer, but what is it? A weizenbock from partly rye malt, or?

A Mes rate. At Chris O’s pre GBBF.
Cloudy yellow brown with a thin white head. Good fruity estery bubblegum stuff. Really tasty and the best of the style I’ve had in quite a while. Excellent.

Bottle at ChrisO’s Pre-GBBF Shindig 2011. Hazy gold pour with a light, foamy head. Big wheat, sugar and yeast aroma. Some bubblegum in the flavor, yeast, sweet wheat. Medium bodied with soft and soothing carbonation. Sweet, lightly sticky finish, lingering yeast. Very good.

IslandHaole with the hook up on this one! Very cloudy brown/orange pour, very small head. Rich sweet aroma, pepper, and yeast. Island Haole nailed the taste: Sweet malts, banana and pepper. Very unique and very tasty! I really like this...a real treat!

A dark hazey brown with a beige head. (Looks as if I just poured another Moinette that I just finished) One sniff quickly ends all notion of that, this is a sweet malty monster with the banana/clove scent reminiscent of Aventinus (one of my favorite beers that I’ve been unable to find here) I also get a touch of smoke from this. Looks and smells just great, now for the true test....Oh yes, sweet malts with the banana flavor and a spicy black pepper taste. A three hour drive and I only picked up one of these... What was I thinking?

Bottle at Chris O’s pre GBBF shindig. Light cloudy orange pour with a white head. Bubblegum and banana aroma. Sweet but in a nice way. Some banana flavour in there. Sweet, fruity finish. Nice.

An unusual winter beer out of Japan but pretty damn tasty. Cloudy butterscotch colour with low suds and busy carbonation. The aroma echoed the brewer’s hefe - heavy on the wheat, plenty of clove, supplemented by some diacetyl. The beautiful creamy body carries the 7% abv very well. Chewy wheat malts and a big clove finish. Very tasty. Liked this one a lot. (Bottle courtesy of TimE at Sully’s Sydney RB gathering Xmas 07 - thanks amigo)
