COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A wonderful spirit of camaraderie, cooperation and mutual support exists in the world of craft brewing. We have harnessed this spirit fully in the crafting of this special collaborative brew dedicated to the resilient people of Japan who are bravely endeavoring to overcome the tragedy of the March 11, 2011 earthquake and tsunami. We tip our brewing hats to the quiet elegance and humble sophistication of Japanese culture through the judicious addition of Japanese whole leaf green tea to this big, bold, spicy and herbal IPA. Botella. Hazy deep orange colour, white lively head, good lacing. Fresh herbal like fruity hoppy aroma, pleasant. Good mouthfeel. Flavour is fruity and bitter, herbal, piney like, dry indeed, more bitterness. Oyshiee.

sweetness (candi sugar) but the malt definitely makes it’s presence known and balances the beer well. the green tea comes in as an herbal smell, a little more obvious in the flavor as it warms...and the mix of hops used (especially the sorachi ace) is unique and blend well together. nice brew. you can definitely taste the baird and stone influences clearly."

Bottle thanks to bleeng. Pours a copper gold with a small off white head that lasts awhile leaving spotty lacing. The aroma is wheat grass and floral hops. Medium mouthfeel with a bitter hop upfront with grass and light hop. A little funky with the alcohol present and a little too bitter.

Bottle from Capone’s. Has a great pour; turbid deep golden orange with 2-finger fluffy white head. Nose is hopcitrus, florals, tannins, black pepper. Tastes rich, very citric, floral, spicy, black peppery, and has a crisp finish. Very complex and enjoyable.

12oz bottle, purchased from Jungle Jim’s for $4. Golden hazy yellow color, minimal white head, good visible particles inside. Little lacing. Interesting aroma. At first I wasn’t getting any green tea, but it’s starting to reveal itself after a few more slow sips. It’s evident in the aftertaste - alcohol is detectable, but is masked very well by the green tea. Mild hops. Little bitterness for a DIPA. Really tasty. However, $4 for a 12oz is pushing it. It doesn’t explicitly say anywhere on the bottle, but I hope some of that is benefiting an earthquake fund. I’ll give Stone the benefit of the doubt and assume there was some sort of philanthropy involved. Undeniably interesting DIPA.

Cloudy orange color, big yellow to tan head. Sweet, hoppy, citrus, cheeze scent. Big, sweet, spicy, yeast, dry taste. Spicy and bitter aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel, high bitterness.

Bottle. Pours a hazed golden orange with a medium to large creamy yellowed beige head. Lemon and earthy cha hints, spicy citrus, and just a bit of the aroma you get after you pour off green tea from the pot, let the leaves sit for a while and start to dry out again. Medium bodied, citrus and earth, very faint tea notes, mostly overpowered at the beginning by the big sticky malt notes. The tea shows up a bit more as it warms. Finishes with some subdued grapefruit and lingering tea tannins and citrus pith. Rather nice actually.

Draught Small yellowish dense head over hazy orange-ochre beer. Orange zeste², much more than tea, very intense, pinch of ginger, flowery. I’m thinking of orange-flavoured, half-fermented tea ("Darjoolong"). Again dry, spicy-bitterish orange zeste, even a bit mouldy, or blue curaçoa orangepeel. Hops are perfectly in balance (what kind??). Spritzy, refreshing, medium bodied. No new flavours in the aftertaste, but long-lasting main flavour. An "interesting" beer - in all senses of the word. Mind, I WOULD drink it again, gladly.

Draft @ Stone vs. Moeder event, Moder Lambic, Brussels. Que faire quand le meillleur du Japon en tant que brasseries convergent pour brasser avec le meilleur des US? Une IPA aux saveurs envoutantes de thé vert. Bièere orangée, brumeuse ayant un aspect de teinte différentes dans le verre dans une sorte de déclinaison avec un nuage de protéines dans le verre. Col jaunâtre, épais. Arôme fruité et tropical, herbacé où l’on ressent superbement bien les feuilles de thé vert écrasées. En bouche, houblon et levure et avec toujours cette épaisseur de thé vert, allant vers du matcha bouilli et d’épinard et poudre verte. Note fruité aussi à noter, surement du houblon, et donnant un note d’abricot avec un léger fini épicé. Une IPA? je me lance pour dire, une saison japonaise dont on redemande.

UPDATED: AUG 10, 2011 Bottle at RBESG Grand Tasting, held at Dean Swift. Thanks to Chuwy for this one. Aroma is tea, green hops, creamy, malty. Deep orange gold color. Sweet, malty, citric flavor, with green tea,, good hops. Dry and astringent with nice hop bitterness.
