COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A wonderful spirit of camaraderie, cooperation and mutual support exists in the world of craft brewing. We have harnessed this spirit fully in the crafting of this special collaborative brew dedicated to the resilient people of Japan who are bravely endeavoring to overcome the tragedy of the March 11, 2011 earthquake and tsunami. We tip our brewing hats to the quiet elegance and humble sophistication of Japanese culture through the judicious addition of Japanese whole leaf green tea to this big, bold, spicy and herbal IPA. Cheers, Japan!

Bottle courtesy of marcotte in Mammoth at maheus bachelor party. Chunky death! Lots of tea particles floating around; nice peppery aroma and flavor. Ends dry with subtle notes of green tea. Pretty good.

sweetness (candi sugar) but the malt definitely makes it’s presence known and balances the beer well. the green tea comes in as an herbal smell, a little more obvious in the flavor as it warms...and the mix of hops used (especially the sorachi ace) is unique and blend well together. nice brew. you can definitely taste the baird and stone influences clearly."

Bottle gift from SJ. Nice notes of citrus, grass, grapefruit, earth, lime and caramel malt. Somewhat refreshing. A bit bold, I liked it.

12oz bottle - A pretty unasuming bottle but I guess when you are Stone and you are releasing an IPA, it better deliver...and this one does. The green tea really doesn’t come out until it hits the palate and it’s really nice. The beer pours out a light amber color, tons of floaties/particles in my beer with an initial 2" off-white head. Aroma has a kind of light alcoholic aroma, perfumy, beet sugar thing going on with a really light hop aroma. The flavor comes out though with both barrels blasting. A really nice combo of green tea and piney/sappy hops. The green tea really suprised me on how assertive it was against the hops. Carbonation is medium, mouthfeel is medium. When the carbonation lightens up a bit, the green tea really comes out a little more. Really a nice beer.

2011 Vintage

8/04/2011: Baird/Ishi/Stone Japanese Green Tea IPA... Aroma: Green tea, kind of funky with some leafy, almost cheesy hops. Appearance: Coppery-orange, cloudy; thin off-white crown. Flavor: Leafy white tea, mandarin orange, somewhat dry; alcohol definitely shines through in the finish. Palate: Medium body; soft mouthfeel. Overall: Very drinkable and quite interesting.

12 Fl. Oz. bottle (9.2% Alc/Vol) shared by Tmoney99. Thanks Tom! Rating #279 for this beer.

Bottle from Henry’s in Eastlake: Created a thin yet firm layer of foamed head while the liquid was a sparkling gold that was full of floaties and other sediment. In the aroma, my nose detects mostly hops perhaps Cascadian, but upon smelling the empty bottle, I was able to pick up some scents of the green tea and maybe even jasmine. The flavor is bitter with green hops and keeps a strong malty base of sweet honey or light syrup while there is definitely an herbal tea like flavor. However, there is only a minimal taste of green tea and I seem to taste more of a ginseng flavor with a faint aftertaste of spearmint. Such a creative and innovative idea and has allowed me to discover Baird Brewing Company. I hope to find some Baird here in the states one day since I’m not sure if I will ever make it out to Japan.

12oz bottle $3.99. I was hoping this would be good like so many Stone Collaborations but I could not stand this and it ended up going down the drain. Bright orange-yellow color, good head, looks good. Smell is odd, a bit oh hops and something totally foreign in an IPA. I like green tea but this was so completely dominated by it that I could not take it. It was just too herbal and "green". Yuck. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 07-29-2011 17:00:39

My friendly neighborhood bottle shop setup a dedicated refrigerated shelf for Stone’s collabs, so this must be a really successful line. Spotted this for the first time...though it is dated 2011... Moving on. 99% awesome aroma, 1% crap. The off-tone is very odd/off and very noticeable in an otherwise awesome waft. Very impressed with the amount of things going on, almost all of them good. Was surprised to see this checking in at 9.2% and you wouldn’t know it by the name or taste. Reading through Stone’s epic, bottle long description points out that there are some hops in here that are rare, and that might explain why I can’t narrow down the flavors. A great brew that likely benefited from me not finding it for > year.

Poured from a 12oz. bottle into a pint glass. Picked up at the local Binny’s right when the case was opened up. A: Pours a very hazy orange with light yellow hues. There is a TON of sediment floating around in the bottle. The pour propagates a nice off white head that leaves some sticky lace behind. S: The hops are there in the form of some nice citrus and light pine. I’m getting some faint green tea that brings in a nice bitterness to round it out. T: There is light citrus hop at the beginning, but then the tea pushes its way to the front leaving a dried tea leaf bitterness. There is a very present alcohol taste at the backend, but there is no heat behind it. M: Crisp and smooth. Light bodied with a light bitter tea left on the tongue. Decent carbonation. O: I really don’t think the tea blended well with this. This seemed like a bunch of ingredients side by side as opposed to blended together. Decent, but wouldn’t revisit.
