COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Imperial Stout is the biggest of the black beers and to drink Baird Dark Sky is to experience a foreboding libation. The aroma is gorgeously complex (dry hopping with American Centenniel & Amarillo hops) and the flavor is a stunning smorgasbord (chocolate, toffee, herbs, coffee, licorice, etc.). The mouthfeel is soft and enveloping. The finish is piquantly acrid and warming (alcohol approximately 7.6%).

Bottle shared by wihorock in Oct. 2012. Pours dark brown to black in color with a small tan head. The aroma and flavor has roasted malts, soy, dark fruits, dark chocolate, licorice with a mild nutty character. Not bad for an under the radar beer.

600 yen bottle from CBB. This beer’s been popping up all over the place. Served in a snifter. Thick viscous inky black pour with almost no head but some slow acting carbonation bubbling up. Plums, figs, umami, candied fruit & Hershey’s chocolate syrup in the nose. Wonderfully smooth medium body that reveals a slick mouthfeel in the aftertaste. As I keep drinking I started to feel the body was a bit light for the style. The flavor is dark bitter chocolate, coffee beans & licorice, good savoury umami + soy sauce as well. After warming up quite a bit you get some molasses & smoke in the nose... pretty good with a bit more tweaking this could be a killer beer, I need some kind of carbonation-being able to get a cm of foam would be nice as would a bit of a thicker body. Other than that quite strong.

Draught at Bungalow. Absolute pitch black, hardly any head. Delicious nose of espresso, dark dark malt, burnt brown sugar. Smooth body, minimal carbonation. Sweet and sticky flavours of coffee, dark chocolate, with a lingering soy sauce tartness. An absolute stunner.

Bottle at SlutFest 2011 on 04/23/2011. Dark black body with a large rocky tan head. Sweet roast and chocolate aroma. Big roast, chocolate, coffee, and creosote flavor with a bitter finish. Medium full body with moderate carbonation.

Tap @ Hoprevolution Vol.2. Dark as a night. Almost no head, just a small lacing. Aroma is quite strong in alcohol, coffee roast comes out more after the beer has warmed u a bit. Taste is full from the beginning. Tightly-packed liquorice, some smoke, hop bitterness. Aftertaste is quite intensive, some coffee and dark chocolate lingering on your tongue for longer. Feels great when the beer is moving through my throat, doing it just as carbonated coffee. Nice beer!

ok, so I found this in the basement while preparing to bring the bottle collection to the depot. Bottle claims 9%. I’ll guess that it is somewhere closer to 78% - just a guess. Bought during the Spanish conquest of the Aztec Empire. still holds a good light roasted base with dark choco, licorice, and the other stuff but now has a plum thing. taste is not as good as it was but this thing held up incredibly well. Light dark fruit, bakers choco, much harder roast, licorice, dry, bitterness still survives but the hops do not. mellow. still yummos.

Serving: from tap at Brouwers Cafe. Aroma: light-to-medium raisin malt. Appearance: no head. Cola-like brown body. Taste: lightly sweet, raisiny initial flavor and lightly bitter, heavily roasty finish with long duration. Palate: heavy body, with syrupy texture, flat carbonation and alcoholic finish feel. Overall: amazing palate--thick, smooth and syrupy. Very good flavor. Nice.

Pours black with a tiny head. Nose shows roasted malt, dark chocolate, nutty notes and liquorice. Pretty similar flavours but less complex, mainly roasted malt, dark chocolate and coffee liqueur. Needs more carbonation, pretty much flat at the moment.
