3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 larsga (4650) - Oslo, NORWAY - MAY 6, 2012
Hardly any head. Opaque black body goes dark brown at edges. Roasty earthy black chocolate aroma with fruity notes. Dry-sweet roasty chocolatey taste with resiny caramelly notes. Fullish body. Mild, slightly hot mouthfeel. Dryish roasty wooden chocolatey aftertaste with resiny burnt coffee and fruit notes. Lovely! Vivid, clean, sharp, and fresh. (0.2l draft at Popeye, Tokyo. Menu says it’s 9.5%, though.)

Chocolate nose and flavor is roasted malty chocolate. High ABV (labelled 9%) is hidden. Not labeled a RIS but tastes like one. $9.99 for a 633ml bottle from Beverage Warehouse Winooski, Vt.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Natai (12) - Sacramento, California, USA - APR 23, 2012
Deep and dark, virtually no head, light aroma, balanced on the palate with fairly even flavor, coffee and raisins aftertaste. Lighter than its appearance suggests. Good, and excellent for what I paid $8.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 5000 (4104) - Hardened Liver, Washington, USA - MAR 31, 2012
Bottle:   Black, thin foamy light brown head, sparce lacing.   Chalky nose, roasty, a bit herbal, make that very herbal.   Very shrubby on the tongue, herbal, with roastiness and soft bakers chocolate.   Not a hopped up Imperial Stout, but one that is soft and herbal.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Comes across as very smooth.   This is not a hopped up Imperial Stout, instead its on the dry chocolate malt side.   Not sure how Imperial this one is, but it is enjoyable.   Alcohol is well hidden, which isnt surprising given its only 7.6%.   Lighter side of an Imperial Stout, and one that is not overly hopped.   Fairly solid, and a bit different in that its a little shrubby.   Others in its class like to hit you over the head with either hops or malts, but this one seems a little more well balanced.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 durhambeer (2096) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - MAR 27, 2012
Pours dark brown, nearly black with a big-bubbled head resulting from an aggressive pour. Nose comes across grainy and thin but it’s much more rich, dense, and complex in the taste. Licorice, toffee, hops. Almost barleywine-like as much as an impy stout. Great taste.

Bottle at Pat’s birthday tasting at chriso’s. Pours dark, ruby-brown with a foamy, beige head. Mild roast and dark malt nose. Nice flavor, medium sweet, lightly roasty, some dirty earth, dark sugar. Medium to full bodied with average carbonation. Pleasantly roasty finish with some slight age to the malts. Mild bitterness of earth and cocoa. Nice, restrained impy.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 reebtogi (2159) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - DEC 8, 2011
650ml bottle pours black in color with a large thick beige head that settles slowly leaving some nice lacing on the glass. Aroma is roasted malts and traces of chocolate and coffee. Taste is roasted malt and coffee bitterness balanced nicely with some malty sweetness and some pleasing hoppy bitterness to finish things off. This is a smoother easy drinking stout which still is loaded with flavor. Very nice.
