Imperial Stout is the biggest of the black beers and to drink Baird Dark Sky is to experience a foreboding libation. The aroma is gorgeously complex (dry hopping with American Centenniel & Amarillo hops) and the flavor is a stunning smorgasbord (chocolate, toffee, herbs, coffee, licorice, etc.). The mouthfeel is soft and enveloping. The finish is piquantly acrid and warming (alcohol approximately 7.6%).

Deep brown with a creamy brown head. Light aroma, smells dry and clean/crisp. The flavor was moderately bitter and had a smooth medium-heavy body. This beer was very drinkable, as the first Japanese dark beer Iíve tried, I was impressed. (The lighthouse on the label was a beer bottle, seemed odd)

330ml bottle (thanks FatPhil). Very dark brown color, almost black. Medium size, brown bubbly head, stays. Malty, spicy hops, nettles, roast, licorice in aroma. Chocolate, malty, spicy citrus, faint orange marmalade in taste. Nice malty citrus in aftertaste. Soft roasty bitterness.

330ml bottle (Uba ja Humal, Tallinn)
Lovely spicy hoppy roasty aroma. Classic imperial stout. Nice black, small tan head. Nice tarry taste, great roast, some soy, love the burntness, itís all the way there but with no astringency. Just a little bit of dry coffee grounds in the palate, so just a bit drying. Nice tempting coffee-ish stout, and the tarry aspects are very nice.

10 abv bottle, pitch black, no head. Rich roasted malt, dark caramel, green/minty hops, hints of dark fruit, low carb giving it a light sirupy mouthfeel, nutty dry finish. Quite different from a usual stout, hopped up and almost as rich as a barley wine.

Bottle, 10% ABV. Dark body, minimal tan head. Aroma has smooth roast with cedar wood and light vanilla. Kind of light mouthfeel but the alcohol is very well hidden. Smooth taste with more cedar and vanilla in the light finish. Interesting. Very "beery" in the sense that itís light and drinkable like a beer should be and not so much a liquefied dessert with extreme viscosity. So props for that.

On tap at Nakameguro Taproom. Served in a stemmed tulip. Black with slight reddish hue and nice tan head. Really bold coffee and chocolate flavors present. Strong coffee and chocolate forward stout rounded out with nice dried dark fruit flavors: fig, prune and currant. 10% alcohol is almost unnoticeable. Very drinkable imperial stout. Oily mouthfeel with a well-balanced finish thatís slightly bitter and sour. Great imperial stout.
