On tap @ Popeye, Tokyo. Dark brown, cola like, not much head. Hoppy aroma. Mild woody hop flavour. Light smooth cola aftertaste. A bit thin for a black IPA.

On tap at Popeye, August 2013. Almost black with a small head. Aroma and taste of light roasted malt, licorice, some grape and hops. Fairly light body on this one and medium carbonation. An ok one.

Draft at Popeye, 07/05/2013. Didn’t realize this was brewed by Baird. Dark brown pour, light highlights, some hazy foam on the surface, thin ring of lacing. Aroma is rich chocolate with dark roast, blending nicely with piney hops, light toffee sweetness counterbalances. Taste is rich caramel and chocolate malts, slight sweetness, roast coffee, citrus and light piney hops, orange rind, spicy bitter finish. Medium body, nice carbonation falling just short of creamy. Nice, glad to have tried.

Black colour with a beige head. Quickly vanishing lacing. Tastes a lot like a stout. Coffee, chocolate, some bitterness.

Wombata (468) - Kobe, JAPAN - MAR 16, 2013
Batch #112--great batch according to Chris. Aroma: grassy hop, some coffee and bitter chocolate aromas. Palate: dry Flavor: mirrors the aroma--grassy hop, coffee and bitter chocolate. Comment: Fortunate to have Chris Poel talk me through this--he aimed for dryness by keeping the malt at a low temperature so most of it converted to alcohol, otherwise, the sweetness would interfere with the hops.

Tap at Popeye. Dark brown, small golden head, soon goes. Aroma, some roast, bit coffee, not so much hoppiness, just bitter from coffee. Taste initial hop hit, grassy hops, quite full on, some grapefruit too. Fades a but further down and get some fruitiness and something floral. Parma violet element with bitter dark choc. Not bad.

on tap at popeye in tokyo. dark brown with a purple tinge, minimal beige head; interesting aroma of pine, grapefruit zest and cocoa butter; full, nectar texture, light coco pops and dry roastiness, quick and satisfying finish; delicious

Draft at Popeyes (Tokyo), a dark reddish brown. Big hoppy nose of citrus and pine. The malt is quite subdued, but adds some roastiness.. A decently bitter palate.
