3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 jonno (1454) - JAPAN - APR 21, 2012
Malty sweet brew. Lots of cereal, cookie dough, grain. A bit too rich for me and not as balanced as I would like.Good solid body. Decent.
3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 TheJollyOne (221) - Sydney, AUSTRALIA - MAY 28, 2009
Tap at the Naka-Meguro Taproom. Clear amber with thick foamy head. Nose hit me from accross the room, sweet, floral hops and faint spices. Quite sweet, with some tart fruit notes, not entirely soft on the palate. Couldnt quite seem to make sense as I rated this one, but I really enjoyed it. Perhaps not malted and marshmellowy enough, as I listened to others.
1.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20 omhper (15956) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - MAY 22, 2009
Draught at Baird Naka-Meguro Taproom. Clear deep golden. Sweet and honeyish with clean, hard bold mouthfeel. Fruity with flavour of grains, honey and, well... that’s all. Finishes with low bitterness. Lacks the central part of a bock: malt softness and depth. This is just a strong, bold end edgy lager.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 KyotoLefty (3752) - Kyoto, JAPAN - JAN 4, 2009
UPDATED: MAY 21, 2011 Bottle. Made with wheat malt, unmalted barley and sugar. Reasonably malty, sweet, fruit, honey and caramel aroma, though fainter than expected. Deep amber color with a tall white head. Rich, sweet malt flavor, grains, biscuits, caramel, honey, fruit. Bitter finish of hops and alcohol. Rather hoppy, and enjoyable, with nice malt character.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Capa (1627) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 3, 2008
Clear golden with an impressive head. Sweet lightly toasted malts, pine, and some fruity citrus. The flavor is much more impressive than the aroma. Strong bitterness, malty, sorta fruity, and pine. Dry, carbonated body. Nice, full of malty charecter with maybe a little too many hops.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 TimE (2065) - Tokyo, JAPAN - SEP 5, 2007
Light golden amber color. Apricots, peaches and piney nose. Full body with peaches, oranges and pineapples. Hoppy for the style. Finihes like a malty fruit cup with some lingering hop bitterness.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 MartinT (6340) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - JUL 26, 2007
My Bottom Line:
Spicy fruitiness and a long herbal hop finish meld for a quenching, well-built glass of Heller Bock.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam tops the orangey golden.
-Carbonation is rather low, and combined with the lean body makes big gulps very satisfying.
-The maltiness supports the spicy hop flavors while adding a honeyed touch of its own.
-This is another Baird beer which doesn’t taste very strong alcohol wise. Makes for some pleasant sessioning!
Bottle; thx Tim!
