COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In a hazy golden hue reminiscent of the morning sun rising up above Mount Fuji, Japan Tale Ale presents itself immediately as a Japanese story. The pure white head of billowy foam hints at the fabled origins of this great island country -- the Sun Goddess, Amaterasu. The sophisticatedly understated aroma of tart Japanese plums speaks of the history of the Imperial Court as it might have existed in the ancient city of Kyoto during the Heian era. The light, almost ephemeral delicacy of flavor tips its hat to the storied history of the Japanese artisan (the potters and the swordmakers, the flower arrangers and the Geisha performers). Beneath this delicacy, though, there exists a flavor character of strength and steely determination that tells of the history of the great Japanese warriors -- the Samurai. An overriding sense of balance and unselfish purpose serves to tie the tale together as if somehow echoing the essence of an informally yet unmistakably united national polity.

Pours beautiful yellow, slightly hazy, bit of white foam. Aroma is fresh and fruity, ume (plum) is coming out but is not very strong, just enough to create that sour-fruity balance against grainy malt backbone. This is also reflected in taste, lots of ume fruit giving a bitor sour acidity and then everything succumbs to a soft malty finish and dry bready ume linger. Totally a summer beer.

Some grass and lettuce, noble hops. Strange lemony sourness, some dust. More sourness in the finish. Meh.

330ml bottle (bottled 20th June 2015) shared with a friend at home on 15th Aug 2016: so slightly out of date. Mini-haze to the golden yellow body, white head. fruity nose and taste with a citrus leaning. Easy drinking and fairly interesting.

330ml bottle as "Baird Beer Japan Tale Ale" (packaged on 20/6/15, label states ABV now 5%). Appears clear bright yellow with a small transient white head. Gets much cloudier with the yeasty sediments. Aroma is gently fruity with fresh green apples to the fore, pear, cereal malts and a subtle citric sourness. Palate is dry and fruity with a restrained sourness and low bitterness. Good refreshing quality with a lightish body and lively mouthfeel. A Berlinerweiss (with a touch of Kolsch) springs to mind. No complaints here.

Can from World Beer Market (Sake no Taniguchi). Fruity nose, with sugared pears, dried peaches, and some yeast. Thin cloudy yellowish color. Light tangy fruit flavors, pears again primarily, some apricot, and gentle citrus notes. Thin body, and quite watery. Love the nose; the flavors have minimal character. If only it lived up to the overwrought deScription above (but, then, maybe no beer could).

Restrained fruity aroma in a cloudy yellow gold pour. Mildly tart taste to start with a malt biscuit body to end.

Laying a white and thin head atop a clouded yellow body. Nose of strong perfume. Flavour is tart and slightly tonic, green banana and berry seed. Okay. Purchased at Metro Liquor University Heights for around $4.

2014 late summer review. On tap at Craft Beer Market Jimbocho. Cloudy golden orange color with huge off-white head. Big plum aroma with hints of orange zest, lime and other citrus. Plum, and slight biscuity malt tastes are present. Fairly sweet on the palate as it settles into room temperature. Thin body with watery mouthfeel. Floral and fruit notes remain throughout.

Draught at Goodbeer Faucets Hakata.
Hazy orange with a fluffy white head. Smells like plums, lime and grains. Tastes of tart fruit and sourdough with moderate carbonation. Pretty nice..

A fruit beer made with plum. 5.5% a super cloudy straw gold with a fluffy white head & a fresh plum aroma. The flavor is a mild zesty plum but the mouthfeel is thin & a bit watery with low carbonation. Zesty citrus that mellows into plum. Decent but it needs a bit more body & carbonation. Near the end of my glass the sweetness was getting slightly cloying but overall very nice.
