COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Kurofune (means "Black Ships") was the word the Japanese used to describe the American gunboats that came to open Japan to western trade. Kurofone Porter is sleek and forceful, but leaves a winning bittersweet taste of chocolate and coffee on the tongue. "Do not resist the superior might; cunningly acquiesce, and embrace." Kampai!

Bottle to snifter (shared by DrSilverworm). Looks good for the style; a semi-translucent dark mahogany with bubbly off-white lacing. Smells of dark malt and roast. Tastes like it smells with some chocolate as well. Decent on the palate. Thin, but alright.

chinchill (1957) - South Carolina, USA - DEC 26, 2013
360ml bottle imported March 2012. Poured with a creamy tan head that had very good retention and lacing. Very dark brown but clear body. Aroma: lightly sweet, with hints of chocolate, raisins and coffee. Flavor: rich and complex with great balance and a lasting dark-roasted grain aftertaste. Somewhat similar to a Scottish stout including a hint of smoke. Feel: Medium body is near creamy smooth even with lively medium carbonation. O: excellent.

Bottle at The Foundry (Mohamed Sultan Rd), Singapore
The color is dark brown, cloudy, with generous beige head. The aroma is chocolatey (like a chocolate bar for cooking). Lean and dry mouthfeel; the roasted malt and chocolate flavor are in balance, although there is as usual a light yeast and dust touch in the end; correct bitterness.
More a Brown Ale, quite good though.

Aroma: 7/10. A very sweet, chocolatey aroma of malt. Appearance: 4/5. Pours dark brown with a thin, chocolate-brown head. Taste: 7/10. Initial chocolate, then strong coffee, with a surprisingly intense taste of alcohol despite only 6%. The hops are stronger with this porter than most I’ve tried. Palate: 3/5. Smooth and wet, quenching on the tongue, with a long, long bitter finish of hops. Overall: 13/20. It’s a decent, different porter. If you’re looking for a porter with more pronounced alcohol flavor and a more intense bite of hops than normal for the style, you might enjoy this one.
