COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Kurofune (means "Black Ships") was the word the Japanese used to describe the American gunboats that came to open Japan to western trade. Kurofone Porter is sleek and forceful, but leaves a winning bittersweet taste of chocolate and coffee on the tongue. "Do not resist the superior might; cunningly acquiesce, and embrace." Kampai!

360ml bottle from 16th St.Liquor in West Vancouver. Pours a very dark brown with thin tan head. Good lacing on this one. Aroma is both smoky and bitter with hints of coffee and a thin whisp of perfume I can’t quite identify. Taste is thick with coffee, bitter chocolate, roasted malt, a touch smoky. More akin to a stout than a porter. The finish is lingering and slightly boozy. Overall this is very good if slightly big for the style.

Svesse (6843) - Hässelby, SWEDEN - MAY 17, 2015
(Draught at Bishop’s Arms Folkungagatan, Stockholm, 15 May 2015) Black colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of coffee, dark chocolate and a touch of citrus. Malty, roasted taste with coffee, dark chocolate, dark bread, dark fruit and a certain coffee bitterness in the finish. Medium body, with a touch of sweetness. Solid and very well balanced porter. Very nice.

Kauge (593) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - MAY 14, 2015
Bottle from Uba ja Humal. Packaged 06/17/14. Pours brown with a moderate light beige coloured head. The aroma seems at first not present. Then after it’s warmed some, I get a pretty off-putting milky tone supplemented by faint roasted malts, chocolate and sourness reminiscent of cold coffee and ’raw’ black bread (yeasty? doughy?). Tastes roasty and sour, milky, chocolaty, kinda piquant and quite bitter. Quite nice and smooth on the palate, with very mellow carbonation and a nice tight body. Overall... nearly a disappointment though.

Bottle. Dark brown in color with a tan head. Notes of dark chocolate, some sweeter notes as in cocoa powder, later on some smokey vibes as well in aroma. Roasted coffee and notes of milk chocolate in taste. Dry and slightly bitter finish.

Marduk (3592) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - MAR 22, 2015
330ml bottle (Koht). Very dark brown color. Small size, brown head, stays. Chocolate, malts, roast, bit of dirty cloth in aroma. Not much aroma. Roasted malts, chocolate, milky taste. Smooth mothfeel. Soft carbonation. Long lasting chocolate malts in aftertaste. I think too much yeast was poured to glass and it makes beer bit duller than it should (only meself to blame). But still nice.

Couleur noire, légère mousse beige. Nez malt noir, chocolat et grains de café, note de lactose? style sweet stout. Gout de malt, café, chocolat doux et chocolat noir. avec notes grillées et amères en fin de bouche. Corps moyen. Fin intense et bien longue. Super!
