COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Kurofune (means "Black Ships") was the word the Japanese used to describe the American gunboats that came to open Japan to western trade. Kurofone Porter is sleek and forceful, but leaves a winning bittersweet taste of chocolate and coffee on the tongue. "Do not resist the superior might; cunningly acquiesce, and embrace." Kampai!

330 ml bottle from Les Vignerons. Dark opaque brown, impossible to see through, with a big, fluffy, forever lasting light beige head. Great lacings. Standard Porter/Stout aroma: toasted and roasted malts, light graininess, coffee powder, a mild chocolate presence. Rooty and licorice forward in the background, togheter with a blueberry reminiscence. Quite fruity in the mouth as well, with a very subtle sourness which goes well with the astringent and slightly bitter coffee taste. Extremely smooth and velvety, great mouthfeel and consequently superb drinkability. Clean and lingering earthy aftertaste. Soft carbonation, medium body, oily texture. Very nice!

(Draught at Bishop’s Arms Folkungagatan, Stockholm, 15 May 2015) Black colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of coffee, dark chocolate and a touch of citrus. Malty, roasted taste with coffee, dark chocolate, dark bread, dark fruit and a certain coffee bitterness in the finish. Medium body, with a touch of sweetness. Solid and very well balanced porter. Very nice.

Kauge (657) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - MAY 14, 2015
Bottle from Uba ja Humal. Packaged 06/17/14. Pours brown with a moderate light beige coloured head. The aroma seems at first not present. Then after it’s warmed some, I get a pretty off-putting milky tone supplemented by faint roasted malts, chocolate and sourness reminiscent of cold coffee and ’raw’ black bread (yeasty? doughy?). Tastes roasty and sour, milky, chocolaty, kinda piquant and quite bitter. Quite nice and smooth on the palate, with very mellow carbonation and a nice tight body. Overall... nearly a disappointment though.
