Love Potion Ale, dark in color and strong in alcohol, is surprisingly sprite and wonderfully aromatic. It is at once playful and provocative yet strong and substantive -- much like the love in a good relationship.

Now at 5.7%. Very straight forward, brisk hoppy red ale. Lots of pine and citrus with a good malt body. Nothing mind blowing, but a solid hop hit.

Dark brown color, molasses, chocolate and somewhat phenolic. Med-full bodied with coffee, molasses and chocolate, but I didn’t think the beer was very rounded. Rich malty backbone. Chocolate, dry finish. Not really sure what the beer is aiming for and it doesn’t know either. Could have used a bit more time condition the beer.

Draught at Baird Naka-Meguro Taproom. Almost black, small head. Molasses and black currant fight for attention at first. Sweet with medium body. Syrupy with some unusual birch leave flavour. Licorice and orange wake up late and spice things up. The mouthfeel is clean, though a bit syrupy.

Draught at the Nakameguro Taproom. Dull black color. Aroma of citrus American hops, molasses and sweet caramel. Dark fruit—plums? Flavor has a bit of chocolate, plum, with a very dry bitter finish. Muddled overall, its intention unclear. Strong alcohol is evident, and it is rather unbalanced and harsh. Nice fruit, though. Could do with some aging.
