COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In the annals of German beer history, Kolsch actually is a relatively "new world" style at a mere two centuries old. It is a pale, dry, assertively hopped golden ale know as the "beer of Cologne." A fruity-winy bouquet is one of its hallmarks. Baird Old World Kolsch is brewed with German Pilsner and Wheat malts and hopped with American Perle and Vanguard varieties. The appearance is highlighted by a gorgeously full head of long-lasting white foam and a slightly hazy white-gold color. The aroma is zesty and lemon-like. The flavor is dry and quenching with a hint of bitter hop fruit.

2012 version on tap. Soft honied fig nose. Body is envious and smooth. Soft, malty bready flavour with some floral and grass hop flavours to finish. A bit cloying and to be honest, a bit boring for me.

Bottle. Fruity, creamy aroma. Light but rather fragrant. Very fruity, citrus hoppy flavor. Decent maltiness, buttery and nice. Good hop burn. Bitter, hoppy, clean finish. Basically fits the traditional style but with much more hops than most. Enjoyable.

Med golden color. Slightly butter floral nose. Subtle, but floral character is very defined. Smooth up front fruitiness with bready hops hitting the back of the throat. A bit too hoppy for the style perhaps, but never the less highly enjoyable.
