3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 KyotoLefty (3752) - Kyoto, - AUG 1, 2009
Draught at the Fishmarket Taproom. Very hoppy, citrus aroma, with pepper and pine and citrus fruit. Light malt. Very hoppy and bitter. A bit sour as well. Harsh but exciting finish. The hops and the fruit work well to make it rather extreme in the bitterness. Works well.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Capa (1627) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 19, 2009
Golden with a white head. Very fruity citrus, but from the fruit, not the hops. The hops are noticeable but a little overpowered by the citrus fruits. Crisp and refreshing but maybe a little too much juice, IMO. Good but hard to have more than one at a time. When I had this in the Nakameguro Taproom the juice was way too strong and nearly made it a disaster to me, but in the Fishmarket it was much more balanced and easier/tastier to drink.

In short: A totally American style juicy hops fix. Very nice session beer.
How: Tap at Dieu Du Ciel (special Japan Night during Mondial 2009)
The look: Clear golden body topped by a very small white head
In long: Pleasant nose of fruity hops (mainly the typical citrusy family). Malts are discreet but offer just enough caramel. The beer feels very juicy. Hops flavour is 2/3 citrusy and 1/3 grassy. Well balanced. Refreshing. Medium bitterness. Nothing overly complex here but a highly drinkable refreshing American style hop fix. A very well brewed beer from a country where there is pressure to do everything well. Except driving.

UPDATED: JUN 16, 2009 My Bottom Line:
This juicy India Pale Ale benefits from generous citrusy hops and their resinous bitterness to provide excitement and refreshment atop lean honeyed cereals.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sheet of foam tops the veiled golden yellow, lacing well.
-This is balanced throughout, even though it is a hop lover’s quencher.
-Carbonation is relaxed, increasing drinkability and producing a comfortable mouthfeel.
-The finishing grassy hop bitterness is firm, but not overwhelming.
-These citrusy hops sure are wonderful!
On tap a few times at Dieu du Ciel!
